The Halls of Arden Vul

Old School Megadungeon. Life is cheap.

A game of old school D&D. The world is unforgiving and death waits around every corner.

Reopening the Listing, Looking for 1 more player for this ongoing exploration of this megadungeon.

We'll be playing Saturdays for 3-4 hours
using the Old School Essentials rules. which are just reorganized B/X rules from '84.
Using DISCORD for Voice, MIRO for mapping, GOOGLE SHEETS for tracking loot.

What can you expect from this Campaign?

The Halls of Arden Vul is a MEGADUNGEON with enough material for a multiyear long campaign, with a major focus on DUNGEONCRAWLING.
The group will explore the dungeon, uncover its secrets, interact with many different factions, forge alliances and make enemies while trying to become rich and famous while also avoiding the very real possibility of dying.

  • Gameplay I prefer the old school tradition of gaming where there is less focus on balanced combat where every encounter is engineered so the players can succeed and instead the world is what it is and the players can encounter things that are way over their head. The focus is on Dungeon Crawling, exploring the dungeon and extracting loot from it and uncovering secrets. Less focus on exploring the psyche and backstories of the characters. The main character of this campaign is the dungeon and its many secrets. The characters are mainly tools to interface with the dungeon and the world at large. Tracking resources like time, light sources, rations and how much your character can carry/ how fast they can run are all important.

What I expect from my players:

  • Teamplay. Tabletop RPGs are a cooperative activity. I expect that my players to get along with each other, be respectful and work together as a team so that everyone has fun at the virtual table.

  • Adventurers. Your characters are adventurers. They are there to delve into the dungeon. It is up to the players to come up with motivations for their characters as to why they are there and why they are adventuring with the group. No edge lords, lone wolfs who are distrustful of the group and aren't team players.

  • Proactive not reactive. I expect my players to be proactive, come up with goals for themselves and pursue them and don't sit around and wait for adventure to come to them.

The Settings for this Campaign are as follows:

  • The Setting. Everything revolves around the Megadungeon of Arden Vul, it comes with its own campaign world which is inspired by ancient Egypt as well as Rome and Byzantium.

  • A Living Campaign. Arden Vul is a living world. Factions within and around the dungeon will react to the actions of the players and their meddling in the status quo of the dungeon and its many factions.
