Red Star Rising (2025)

"You are a part of the Hanataz, a group of outcasts who travel the roads and perform carnivalles outside of most major settlements.

The Hanataz consists of a motley bunch of people from all over the land. There are many different reasons why one would become Hanataz, but there is one that more or less guarantees your only chance of survival is with them: the Bloodtouch. It is a magical corruption, and those affected by it are seen as abominations by the rest of the world, guaranteed to be ostracized. It is said among your kind that the Hanataz were founded by a Bloodtouched woman herself, with many others following in her footsteps over time.

This particular tale centers around the Zatis, or 'the helpers' in the common tongue. As is tradition for teenagers and young adults—too old to be babysat, but too young to perform—you are expected to help around the carnivalle however you can. For this particular stay, you were chosen as guards, tasked with patrolling the grounds and dealing with any potential troublemakers or threats as the troupe sets up near the city of Nevermore. What starts as a normal day at the carnivalle, however, soon turns into much, much more, as ancient powers reawaken and threaten to destroy everything you've ever known and held dear."

Hello and welcome to this grand adventure of love, loss, friendship and adventure. My name is TheDeadOne, and I'll be your DM for this epic tale.

I'm sure the following is a bit of a big ask, but as they say: nothing ventured, nothing gained.

One of my players just got a promotion, and, while we are very happy for him, that unfortunately means he won't be able to make it to the games any longer. That leaves us in a bit of a pickle though. Due to the particular narrative of this game, him leaving creates a bit of a hole in the story that I would like to invite someone interested to help fill.

For clarification, we're just about to move into book 5 out of 5 released (and 7 planned, though there hasn't been a release date for the last two books set yet) for this particular adventure. I can fully understand that the idea of joining so late might feel overwhelming to you right now, especially in a narrative focused game like this, but I'm more than happy to help catch you up on all the important details you need to know to feel right at home.

As for your character, there are ways to incorporate a new face into the game — even if it might need a delicate touch to pull it off successfully — or you could take over the NPC currently accompanying the group: a young half-elf woman, whose personality constantly shifts to match the situation. I'm sure you could really put your own spin on her.

I of course realize that the whole thing might look rather daunting at first glance, and I'm sure you might have some reservations about joining. However, I'm more than happy to welcome anyone brave enough to give it a try regardless; I'm sure you won't regret it.

If I managed to catch your interest, take a look at the DM Philosophy and FAQ channels and leave an application in the appropriate channel. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
