"The mission of The Runehold Conservatory is to discover and preserve magical knowledge, to disseminate that knowledge from one generation to the next, to promote free and open study of magic in all its forms, and to make an absolute killing off of tuition!" -Kostrum Orune, Headmaster
Welcome to the Runehold Conservatory. This is a campaign I have been wanting to run for a while with my existing Wednesday group, and after moving on from our last campaign with some players leaving I wanted to put out some applications for new players for this new campaign. Based loosely off a couple of ideas with Strixhaven being one of them, as well as the Dimension 20 Fantasy High and Misfits & Magic campaigns, I've always loved the idea of a magical school setting and the stories that could be explored there. Currently, the group has three players most of which I've gotten to DM campaigns for almost 4 years now, I'm looking for 2 more players to bring us up to 5 (6 including myself), I like 5 as a number of players as it allows up to keep playing if we are missing a player for a session as well as general combat balance and composition. As for campaign content, we'll get more into a plot hook as we go along but I want the tone of this to be somewhat lighthearted and comedic (as we've just come out of an apocalypse setting as our last campaign), but as with everything I run a fun mix of high fantasy and for this campaign specifically a focus on high magic (with the possibility of getting to create unique and original spells and magical items) and a set of downtime rules to expedite the less interesting parts of attending school.
I'm Clover (he/him) and I've been playing 5th edition for almost 6 years now mostly using roll20. In that time, I've gathered a lot of different resources to be able to run these games and as someone who loves to see cool artwork, make/source a lot of my own maps as well as try to have art for almost every major npc, location, or item of interest. I also make use of a music bot in the Discord we use for voice chat with ambience and music for various situations, and we also use Dynamic Lighting in roll20 to make the experience of exploring maps more immersive. No characters have been set in stone yet, I'd like to wait for a full Session 0 to talk over things like that but feel free to have an idea in mind as you read over things. Sessions are always at 5 PM MST on Wednesdays, cancelling for most major holidays and with a heads-up from myself if we don't have enough players, etc, and I try to have sessions last about 4ish hours, ending between 9 and 10 PM MST usually. The date listed is for the Session 0, which I will have chosen the new 2 players by then, I'm looking to stagger the start of this campaign until after the holidays and into the new year when schedules are hopefully settled in.
This group has played in the same setting for almost every campaign I've ran thus far, sort of a homebrewed Forgotten Realms a little bit into the future past what WOTC has written. We started with Tomb of Annihilation, into a Planescape game prior to its 5e release with some 2e modules converted (Dead Gods mostly), after that we did Spelljammer prior to its 5e release as well and finally our last campaign was an apocalypse plot not set in our current setting I called Just Last Thursday, loosely based off a the idea of Last Thursdayism and a sort of Darkest Timeline approach. Wanting to start with a blank slate, and finally get back to the Material Plane, I expanded on the epilogue of a previous PC who opened a school in Sigil and wrote up this campaign, which has the players attending a magical/adventuring school college built on the bones of Neverwinter College just outside Neverwinter. I'll expand more on player characters later, but I'm pretty open to ideas as long as they fit well within the genre and tone we're working with. I wanted to expand the setting into an "adventuring school" as well to allow for characters that aren't spellcasters to attend as well, one of the few things that will be required however is that PCs are young adults/adults as some of the dangerous situations that characters may find themselves in could be crossing some lines with younger PCs.
This group is open to anybody and everybody who would like to apply as we do not support discrimination of any kind, that being said I have a few things I'm personally looking for in an applicant that I'd like to outline. Please have access to Discord, Roll20, and a quality microphone so that you will be able to access everything needed to play in the campaign. Please make sure you can routinely show up to the time listed, obviously real life happens but always try and shoot me a heads-up asap if you know you're going to miss as session. Please be willing to interact, roleplay, and communicate with your fellow players and myself, I don't mind quiet players but I do mind uninterested players and I'm always open to feedback if it feels like something isn't working. Don't be afraid to get into character! All of us at the table myself included try our best to get immersed and tell a fun story, so no pressure to feel like you need to be a professional voice actor or storyteller.
If you've made it this far feel free to drop an application below and/or send it to me on Roll20. After that I'll setup some discord interviews so we can have a quick chat about a couple things and from there on I'll send out invitations to the Roll20 game.
