PBP THE GREAT ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RPG SYSTEMS

PBP THE GREAT ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RPG SYSTEMS

This is a TEXT-ONLY (NO VIDEO, NO VOICE) PLAY-BY-POST ONE-ON-ONE GAME with the GM. Before the game begins, the Player will choose one of many different RPG Systems that are available, each of which is unique and different. It is not necessary for the Player to own the RPG System chosen, but realize that there many be a lengthy learning curve, especially for complex RPG Systems. All Posts are made in the Roll20 Forum Area for the game, not on Discord or some other external location.

Players are required to post AT LEAST ONCE PER DAY. If you cannot do that, please do not apply. The GM will then respond Once per Day as well. If the GM has more time available, they may post more than Once per Day. Time away from the Campaign can be scheduled, as long as the GM is notified beforehand and requests do not become excessive.

Please realize that games will move VERY SLOWLY since this is Play-by-Post at least once per day. There may be times when your post involves only rolling a die or providing a simple answer to a question. Players should expect this Snail's Pace of a game and not be surprised that the game is not progressing faster.

I am an Old School GM who believes that the GM is the Final Authority (for making Rulings) in the game. I believe Rules are Guidelines which can be bent or broken (not without good reason) depending on the situation and game. If you don't agree with this (as the Player) or are uncomfortable with this, please do not apply.

There may be portions of the game that are completely THEATER OF MIND. This means there may be times when there is No Map, No Tokens, and No Pictures, only Text. You must use your Imagination to visualize the scene and what is happening. You can always ask the GM for additional details if you need clarification regarding a situation.

Just because this game is One-on-One with only the GM, it does not necessarily mean your character will be adventuring alone. It is very likely that one or more NPC's may travel with your character if they share similar goals. How much you trust those NPC's will be up to you to decide.

Since I have an Old School RPG Background, I prefer Simplicity in games. Dynamic Lighting will not be used and sometimes, maps will be crudely drawn as if paper and pencil were used. At times, pictures may be used to enhance a scene, but not all the time. If a character sheet is available on Roll20 which matches the RPG System we are using, then we will use it. However, if not, we may simply use a Text Only Character Sheet similar to if we just wrote out all the details on a piece of paper. Sometimes, we will use a beautifully painted Battlemap with standard tokens to represent your character, NPC's, and monsters.

It is very important that Players take the Roleplaying of their character Seriously. While this Campaign is a form of escapism and temporary departure from reality, it is not meant to be a place for Players to just Goof Off and Play Ridiculously. To be frank, I am not a Babysitter and will not waste my time dealing with childish antics. However, I do believe in having fun while playing, as long as it is handled correctly within the context of the game. I am very much against Powergaming, Min-Max, Rules Lawyers, and Evil Characters without any Moral Standards.
I don't believe that every encounter should be perfectly balanced against the current capabilities of the Player's character. There will be times when you face something out of your league. Your character should be aware of that and try to find some other way to succeed. This promotes creativity, improvisation, ingenuity, and adaptation. It is very possible that your character may die during the adventure. While being a sad occurrence, don't get discouraged if your character perishes. You can always make a new one.

I will review Applications and, if a Player looks promising, they will be invited to join the Sorting Hat Testing Campaign. The Sorting Hat Testing Campaign is a TESTING GROUND where the Player is examined in detail to see if they are a good fit for the PBP Great Encyclopedia of RPG Systems Campaign. The Sorting Hat Testing Campaign will take approximately one month, although it may be longer or shorter depending on the Player. The Player will be Tested in areas which include Daily Posting, Etiquette, Ability to Follow Directions, Skill at Role Playing, Enthusiasm, Ability to follow Basic Campaign Rules, Character Creation, and more. The Final Step to passing the Sorting Hat Testing Campaign is to complete the Dungeon of Zenopus using the Dungeons and Dragons Basic System (this will give me some idea of how you behave during an actual game). Not all Players who join the Sorting Hat Testing Campaign will continue on to the PBP Great Encyclopedia of RPG Systems.

What follows is the List of RPG Systems currently available. Notable Campaigns, Settings, Adventures, Cities, and Megadungeons are also listed. This List will be continually expanded and updated over time. For the most part, only the Core Books will be used with each system to start, leaving third party products or expansion material for a later date.
