Sirensong No More

A port town was attacked by merfolks. Their objective was to take back a siren’s corpse, which they successfully did despite their losses in the struggle. The siren is no ordinary creature, as she is part of a bloodline which grows scales that possess healing properties but which fade quickly once plucked. The town is struggling with a disease and the scales were meant to be used to concoct a remedy. The merfolks inhabit a half-submerged cave nearby, but the town isn’t able to send their own fighters. Most of them are either injured or sick, and the remaining healthy ones are tasked with protecting the town. Perfect timing for your arrival. You might’ve been staying in town when the attack happened, or you arrived shortly after. You’re still in great shape and your talents are needed. You are hired to retrieve the body. “Care not for morals and dilemmas. Regardless of the merfolks’ beliefs, we need this siren’s body or this town is doomed. Use the dirtiest tricks if you must, but save us,” says the mayor amidst the start of a raspy coughing fit. With the promise that you shall be heavily recompensed and given a dose of the cure if you succeed, in case you were to fall sick yourself, you are given a ride on a small boat. A chest is dropped at your feet, carrying a few helpful items, and a quick prayer to Leviathan sends you on your way.

This oneshot is perfect for a group wishing to get right into a fun dungeoneering experience! You’ll have to traverse semi-aquatic terrain, fighting your way through the merfolks’ defenses and devising a plan to take back the siren’s body. Not so much puzzles, more situations requiring clever traversal. Come on, dive in!

A word from your DM (Jurian)

At 14, I experienced a single session of D&D 3.5. I was much too young to DM correctly. Yet, I continued trying. First with my brother’s friend groups and, eventually, with my own ones. I’ve explored systems and worlds and still craft new ones to this day, over 10 years later.

D&D 5e came into my life during quite a confusing time, and it served as a powerful medium to channel my creativity. It is where I finally completed my first campaign as a DM. What an explosive conclusion it was! It made every effort worth it.

It is with that experience that I’ve come into my style of DMing that focuses on cooperative storytelling. I want to be able to create a canvas to be detailed for and by players. If you wish to build a character focused on ghosts, then let’s develop the spiritual realm of the world! A bounty hunter with underworld connections? Time to make that underworld! You make my worlds much better with your insight.

In terms of subjects, I share a lot of themes with the cosmic horror genre, but with a twist that I wish to allow humanity to be able to face the threats that are supposed to be far beyond our reach. Bittersweet but hopeful stories. I would be more than happy to welcome you within those tales.
