West Marches - The Age Undreamed Of

Listen well, child... for the world won’t whisper her name much longer.
"Tharion..."
That was the first name ever carved into stone. Older than kings, older than steel. A name the bones of the earth still remember. This is not a land of soft ground and safe rest. This is the first world—the wounded world—the one the sky tried to forget.

Once, the Giants ruled it, tall as mountains and drunk on their own cleverness. They tore open the firmament with their star-pronged towers, reaching for the flame that was not meant to warm mortal hands. And from beyond the veil, something looked back. Something cold. Something hungry.

That’s when the Dragons came—not creatures, no, but wounds in the world made flesh. They do not belong here. They never did. They twist the sky above them and leave their madness in men’s dreams. The Giants died screaming. Good riddance.

Now the cities cower behind stone walls, ruled by God-Kings who pretend to hold back the dark. Their thrones are built on old lies and older bones. Steel is rare, magic rarer, and trust rarer still. But the gods? Oh, they’re real, child. You won’t need faith—just eyes. They walk this world when it pleases them, wearing flesh like a borrowed cloak.

And me? I was born when the moon cracked and bled silver. I’ve seen children of flame, heard the bone choirs, and witnessed the work of dreaming statues. I’ve drunk from the black rivers and spat in the face of a whispering wyrm.

So mark me: if you wish to survive Tharion, don’t chase power. Don’t chase glory.
Chase knowledge.
Even if it kills you.
Because in these lands, it usually does.

This is a West Marches style game. Players are on the frontier of what was once an Empire of Giants. History from your homes only tells of the sudden appearance of Dragons, which arrived in your lands from across the seas, and a great funnel of clouds swallowing the lands of Tharion whole, cutting them off from the rest of the world. Until now.

Tharion is a homebrewed setting, borrowing some ideas from Dark Sun, and much of the feeling and vibes from Swords and Sorcery settings like Conan the Barbarian. Expect a world of myths and mystery, tinged with cosmic horror.

It is a low-magic setting. Magic using classes are allowed, but are known to be rare. The casters in your party may be the only ones you meet outside of the cities, where God-kings rule. The use of magic more powerful than 3rd level may paint you as a target for cults or magical beasts.

Seaching for a party of 4-5, for Semi-weekly play, as my current job has an irregular schedule.

The direction will be decided in a session 0, where we will discuss where the party begins and why, and discuss the long-term goals and expectations of the setting. Will prioritize groups of players before individual players. Session 0 will be free.
