While Exploring the Dungeon of the Mad Mage, Join us for an adventure in the Infinite Staircase!

This group is diving into a side adventure in the Infinite Staircase as a side quest before returning to Dungeon of the Mad Mage!

Come and join us on a fantastic journey into the Tegefed Mountains, filled with danger, disaster, excitement, folly, friendship, and magic!


Campaign Overview

We will be running Quests from the Infinite Staircase: When a Star Falls, an adventure that the characters will tackle at level 6 before we return to our previous campaign in Waterdeep to tackle Dungeon of the Mad Mage.

This extra adventure allows new players who missed Waterdeep: Dragon Heist to meet the group over a few week period before jumping into Dungeon of the Mad Mage.


Time Commitment

  • This will be a weekly campaign, expected to last about two years in total.
  • Each session will be 4 hours long.
  • Sessions will be held at the time listed in this listing.

Free Session Zero

  • This will be an opportunity to:
    • Get to know one another
    • Discuss expectations for the game.
    • Talk about the setting.
    • Build your character and tie them into the story.

If you join after the campaign has started, we will schedule an individual Session Zero with just you and me to help you acclimate.


Communications

  • Out-of-game communication: Managed via the Critical Tavern Discord server.
  • In-game communication: Voice and video will be handled via Roll20 integrated voice and video.
    • Video is optional, but a microphone and a Discord account are required to participate.

Payment

  • Rate: $25 per person per 4-hour session (via PayPal).

Safety Tools

To ensure a fun and comfortable experience for all players, we will be using several safety tools:

  • Session Zero: Sets expectations, ensures open communication, and introduces safety tools.
  • Lines and Veils:
    • Lines: Hard limits for content that will not appear in the game.
    • Veils: Content that may be referenced but not described in detail, or will "fade to black."
  • Open Door Policy: Players can step away for their well-being at any time without judgment.
  • Breaks: A 10-minute break will be scheduled each session, but players may take personal breaks as needed.
  • Stars and Wishes: Used for positive feedback and to share what players enjoyed (Stars) and what they would like to see more of (Wishes).

🔹 Safety tools will be further discussed in Session Zero and documented in a private Discord channel for easy reference.

Character Creation Details

  • System: D&D 5e
  • Starting Level: Matches the party’s current level (discussed in Session Zero).
  • Stat Generation:
    • Standard Array OR
    • 4d6, drop the lowest, assign values in any order.
  • Available Content
    • Players will have access to a shared compendium for character creation and leveling.
    • Includes. Most official D&D books and select third-party content (e.g., Tome of Heroes by Kobold Press).
    • Restrictions. Some content may be setting-specific. Please ask the GM for approval.

The full campaign will run from level 1 to 20, using experience-based leveling. In side quests outside of Dungeon of the Mad Mage characters will not gain levels, but will gain treasures and boons.
