Grim Horizons

Ongoing game, the players are only 3rd level. Join us.

The gods are dead, and the world has fallen into the Era of the End

Grim Horizons will be a campaign in the exceedingly popular DnD 5E setting of Grim Hollow. The story will take place in a world post the War of the End, in which Vodius, Lord of Annihilation, along with his Cabal of the End, have slain their fellow deities. The world has been plunged into almost permanent night as enders, the monsters who acted as soldiers on behalf of the cabal, have taken almost full control of the Empire of Doredune.

Only small bastions have hope and light, called shends (short for shadowsend), still hold the Grasp at bay. These small communities gather around celestial artefacts. These literal final vestiges of the power of the gods that have fallen to the Mortal Realm do not allow enders to approach creating tiny havens of light in a vast ocean of death and despair.

You will play one of the enduring in this grim dark adventure filled with monsters, magic and difficult choices as you try to survive and with some grit and good fortune, push back the darkness that has gripped the world.

We will be using my campaign frame, Age of the End. This is a modified version of the Age of Umbra campaign frame. One important addition I have made is the "Paths to Power." Upon character creation, you will choose an extra experience in which you describe how you survived an encounter with an ender. This brush with death left you forever changed; however, as a piece of the darkness has become a part of you.

The question now is, how did you survive? Did you drink the vitae of a vampire? Did you eat wolfsbane within hours of a werewolf bite? Or were you captured by the Voiceless and can't quite recall how you escaped their subterranean lair? Either way, these experiences must be kept a secret for the enduring look upon any who are stained by the enders as a threat, and with good reason.

I guarantee you will want to make it to the end, even if your character does not.

Session Details:

Frequency/Duration: The game will be played weekly for 3-3.5 hours
Start Time: As above, we will strive to start 20 minutes after the hour at the latest, assuming we have to wait for someone.

My name is Noxid and I have been a professional game master for 5 years. I have over 15,000 hours of playtime on Roll20 and have played with hundreds of players. They range from completely brand new to seasoned veterans, many of whom have requested to play with me a second or even a third time.

What do I expect from you:

  • I expect everyone to respect others in the group, everyone will be given their time to shine and I will not tolerate players who attempt to continuously hog the spotlight and dominate the space.
  • Fluency in English, which will be our means of communication
  • Minimum background noise, If you have an active background please set Discord to push to talk
  • Being on time. The game will begin 10 minutes after the hour.
  • Any disruptive behaviour such as stealing from fellow players, berating others, sexual overtures, etc. will not be tolerated

Why should you pay to play?

  • Players who are as dedicated and invested in the game as you are

Here is what some of my players have to say about my games:

"I have been playing with Noxid as a professional DM continuously since late 2017. I've played with Noxid under two different gaming systems (5E and Pathfinder 2E); running both official published campaigns and homebrew campaigns. The gaming experience with Noxid is fun! You're going to have a great time. The official published campaigns are run creatively with tweaks and extras sprinkled in. The homebrew settings are unique with an uncommon depth including Noxid's own custom races and subclasses. Noxid is fantastic at world building and framing a story for players to let their character comes to life to become the saviors of the realm, or... at least a bunch of misfits that are hard to kill! It's been nearly six years since I started playing in Noxid's games and I plan on continuing with him as my DM for the foreseeable future"

"Anyone who has played virtual tabletop games understands the difficulty of finding a dependable GM and group of players. Noximus has been my GM for over two years, and I don't know if I will ever return to trying to find free games. First of all, Noximus is worth the fee; he does an excellent job, is always prepared, and is good at adapting to the unexpected stuff players throw at him while still keeping things grounded in the established material so that you feel that your characters have agency but that your choices matter and may not go how you envisioned.
Noximus' content feels appropriate for what I came to expect from my original introduction to the hobby many years ago; it has a nice, retro feel that is nostalgic for me and doesn't include R-rated content (at least not in our group).
I am not sure if it is the fact that his players are willing to put some skin in the game, as it were, or if it is his vetting process as the GM, but I have never had a player join our group who was disrespectful, or otherwise a problem to our enjoyment of the game. As with all VTT games, players come and go as life happens, but Noximus is good at keeping the challenges well-balanced, no matter the shifts in party dynamics.
Finally, he always has interesting visuals as backdrops or battle maps and fun music for the in-game action.
I give Noximus a solid 10/10 recommendation with no complaints; I am a happy customer!"

"I've had the pleasure of playing with Noxid for more than three years now. As a DM myself my experience playing 5e at his table has been highly rewarding; he's a seasoned, quick-thinking, consistent and reliable DM who excels at many aspects of running a game, from building atmosphere to building and running complex but well-balanced encounters. He has a very strong grasp of 5e mechanics but is also flexible and experienced enough to reward more creative playstyles while keeping a strong sense of balance and fairness. At the same time, he is also an adept storyteller who excels at building narrative tension and a sense of urgency, building up to memorable encounters. I consider myself fortunate to have made many friends and memories at his table"

"I have played with Noxid as a DM now for 5ish years. From both Wotc modules and custome campaigns. From level 1-20. I'd recommend him to any salty +10 years DND veteran or any new players giving it there first go. Noxids strengths are being able to read the table and feel where/what the party/players current mood is and using that to guide the session. He also excels at making DND 5e combat more exciting and interesting with his creativity. Being fair he's main flaw I would say is that his willingness to change and create new rules (which is honestly a must in 5e these days for balance) can sometimes be slightly overwhelming for newer players but he is always understanding and open to constructive criticism of his work"

Things that make playing in Noxid’s campaigns a delight:

I have complete freedom to interact with the world in any way I like, and the NPCs respond realistically. If I wanted to pick someone’s pocket, for example, one DM would give me a little too much help in succeeding, while another DM might contort the world to make me fail. In Noxid’s games, I feel like I’m actually in this world and everything is happening organically.

My party and I can always choose to go off the rails without worrying about whether Noxid is prepared to handle it. I have a good memory of a time when one party member at the beginning of the game randomly decided that he wanted to visit his archfey patron in the feywild. Noxid, apparently on the spot, came up with a small puzzle to get through the closest feywild portal. Then, we were treated to an intrigue-filled gala at the Court of Beasts That Fly By Night and its beautiful but dangerous fey.

Noxid is skilled at managing players at the table and preventing anyone from dominating the game or creating conflict.

Noxid has both a deep knowledge of the game mechanics and a passion for lore, and he uses that to create balanced, unique magic items, enemies, NPCs, dungeons, and much more. I have particularly enjoyed his magic items. My favorite one I’ve gotten is a boat immune to the ravages of time. It was created by a giant, and with the command word it could become small enough to fit in my pocket.

"I have been gaming with Noxid for many years and don’t intend to stop anytime soon! Each session is very player centric with you as the player always having full freedom of choice in what to do next. The sessions are also run in a way that facilitates a lot of party interaction and the feel crafted to ensure that both you as a player and to the group as a whole will have an interesting session. Noxid is always willing to work on any system rules and setting features to ensure that the game and the setting never get in the way of the style of gaming you and the group wish to pursue. If you are looking for a game I cannot recommend Noxid enough!"
