Demon Slayer: Weeping Nights

This game will utilize Fabula Ultima, a system heavily built upon FATE, the system itself emulates a style of JRPGs onto a TTRPG playspace

System: Fabula Ultima (JRPG-flavored TTRPG with FATE DNA)
When: Listed slot is the target; I can shift to accommodate player availability.
New to Fabula Ultima? I’ll provide the rulebook once you’re in. A quick overview video: https://youtu.be/uGsHNuEReb0

Inspirations
Demon Slayer (as may have guessed), with equal parts inspiration from Nioh 1+2, L5R/Rokugan, Okami, Sekiro, a pinch of Red Alert + Iron Harvest, and a touch of Tale games.
A World of Familiar Shadows, Newly Cast

This campaign honors Koyoharu Gotouge’s work but is not a 1:1 retelling. The Demon Slayer Corps, Pillars, and Final Selection exist, yet lore, stakes, characters and tools are expanded/altered to fit tabletop play and keep you guessing.

You won’t meet Tanjiro, Giyu, Akaza, Gyutaro, etc. Some archetypes or characters echo the original, but most figures and events are new.

Setting — 1924, After the Great War
Japan and its neighbors are scarred or revolutionizing in new ways in the Great War's aftermath, properly modernizing. Electric grids, locomotives, early radio, and even luxury airships exist—but those flying leviathans are toys of the wealthy; common folk still live by lanterns and folk wards, were a country bumpkin to ever see it they ay mistake the airship as some mythical flying metal whale.

Tone: 1920s East Asia, fantastical industrial growth meets the Supernatural.

Authority: The Demon Slayer Corps operates with Imperial sanction (as in distant centuries past by approval from the Emperor), but remains discreet in its operations.

Demons, Magic, and the Bleed (The Core Differences)
Demons corrupt the world. Their presence thins reality and causes Bleeds—overlaps with the otherworld known by many names (Yokai Realm / Fae / Wyrdness—same thing, different cultures).
The Bleed spawns myth-born, tall tale and entities of legend (e.g., Oni, Tengu, Kitsune, Yuki-onna, Onryō; in China: Jiangshi, Yaoguai, Huli Jing; in Korea: Gwisin, Gumiho, Dokkaebi; in the north: Rusalka, Leshy, Koschei-like). It can also rewrite terrain (sudden palaces/tombs; rivers climbing hills; glass forests; crimson skies).

Magic’s “overtone window” has shifted. Historically, magic existed but felt like mere coincidence mistakeable for just odd, largely inconsequential happenstance. Demons have since pushed it from subtle to overt and forceful—now plainly visible sorcery can happen with disastrous effects.

Demons & Weaknesses: Sunlight destroys them; Nichirin (sun-forged) still kills via beheading; wisteria and engineered compounds repel/harm; certain sanctioned talismans allow humans to channel purified demonic power safely, practicing sorceries.

Purified Sorcery: The Alchemy Corps discovered that pious, arcanely compatible humans can mix their blood with purified demon blood on consecrated paper to cast controlled spells. For non-compatible users, Calyxes (single-use vessels) exist—but are costly and inconvenient to make.

Breathing Styles remain pure sword-sorcery (no demonic taint), expressing the natural world through breath and blade.

The Demon Slayer Organization (鬼殺組織)
HQ Region: Eastern Asia (primary hub: Kyoto, Japan)
Oversight: Ubuyashiki Zaibatsu
Mission: Eradicate demons, neutralize Bleeds, contain supernatural fallout.

Scope & Standing
Operates across Japan, Korea, China, and Russia. Governments generally look the other way as long as the Corps prevents disasters. Imperial sanction is longstanding; foreign specialists are used begrudgingly but pragmatically.

Ubuyashiki Zaibatsu (産屋敷財閥)
Philanthropic, intensely private, and the organizational spine: funding, logistics, research. A lineage known for brilliance and frailty. Industrial ties range from pharmaceuticals to airships; the Zaibatsu underwrites much of the Corps’ science and secrecy.

Principal Divisions
Support Corps (Kakushi): Recovery, triage, transport, messengers, concealment/cleanup, logistics, gear care, and Kasugai crows.
Engineering Corps (“Smiths”): Nichirin forging; grapples, launchers, light arms; Bright Powder and wisteria-based weapons; adapts Great War tech for field use.
Slayer Corps: Field hunters and investigators.

Paths to Power:
Breathing Styles (呼吸法) — natural sword-sorcery.
Blood Talismans — sanctioned purified sorcery for compatible users.
Hashira (Pillars): Apex practitioners; each may take a Tsugoku (successor).
Alchemy Corps: Demon physiology, Blood Demon Arts research; antidotes, elixirs, poisons, talismans; Bleed analysis and containment; Calyx production for non-compatible users. (The Veiled Sage—female mantle—vanished during the Three-Day Blood Moon.)

Your Starting Point — Final Selection
You begin as Demon Slayer candidates. Your induction depends on surviving the Final Selection at Mount Fujikasane—a sacred-prison mountain where demons are contained for trials (and Alchemy Corps study). Expect: survival, investigation, and choices under pressure. Pass, and you become full Slayers.
It has been three months since the disaster that has been the three day blood moon and the Demon Slayer Organization has been clinging desperate to replenish their losses, your characters will be a part of that next generation of slayers.

Table Expectations
What I’m Looking For
Decent mic (no constant static/echo).
Discord for voice, coordination, and questions.
Choose cool/interesting over purely optimal; not that I have an issue with the optimum or well built characters... just avoid Mary/Gary Stu vibes.
Be amicable; light ribbing is fine if it’s actually funny.
Don’t no-show without warning.

What to Expect
40/40/20 split: Combat / Roleplay / Exploration-Puzzles-Other.
Maps for most scenes (custom or prepackaged).
Occasional crass humor.
Start at Level 5 (Fabula Ultima standard).
Please post only in Applications or Questions. Random extra threads = no entry.

Code Words
Include “Butter” somewhere in your application (obvious enough for me to spot).
I’ll hide two additional code phrases—one in Questions, one in the Glossary. Applicants who include all three get priority.

Quick Differences From Canon (At a Glance)
Timeline moved to 1924 with early-modern tech; most high-tech luxuries limited to elites.
Demons breed corruption that causes Bleeds (Yokai/Fae/Wyrdness), spawning regional myth-creatures and terrain anomalies.
Magic existed subtly for ages; demons shift the overtone window—now overt sorcery can occur.
Purified sorcery via Blood Talismans exists (sanctioned, non-corrupting for compatibles). Calyxes enable one-shot spells for non-compatibles but are costly.
Breathing Styles = pure sword-sorcery (no demonic taint).
Campaign mostly uses original NPCs/events; no Tanjiro/Giyu/Akaza/Gyutaro, etc.
