Scourge of the Nightingale

A new menace is terrifying the Harrowdale region, creating havoc and turmoil, preparing for something bigger. You will be playing as a group of old friends who may have drifted apart somewhat or moved away. You are all gathering in the village of Woodbury, about 2 days northwest of New Velar, to celebrate the wedding of one of your friends.

Will you uncover and end the nefarious plot of the villian who is threatening the people of Harrowdale?

Scourge of the Nightingale is a classic adventure set in Harrowdale in the Forgotten Realms. This adventure should last 5 or 6 three-hour sessions, depending on how the characters respond to the situtations. It includes investigation, exploration, combat, and roleplay. In our first session we will discuss lines and veils and connections between your characters.

We will be using Level Up: Advanced 5e for the game. If you are new to the system, you will be able to choose a pregenerated 3rd level character and determine their gender, appearance, and backstory. Let me know if you have played Level Up before. I will give you the necessary information so you can create your own 3rd level character.

This is a great opportunity for those interested in learning a new system. Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition is an "advanced", standalone version of the 5E ruleset, based on 2014 DnD. Some key features of Level Up A5e:
• All martial classes get combat maneuvers powered by exertion points which are similar to a monk’s ki points. Your class determines which traditions are available. You choose which maneuvers to learn as you level up.
• All classes get extra features with unique names like tricks or talents, that allow you to further customize your character. They give new abilities in non-combat situations like exploration, skill checks, or social encounters, depending on your class.
• The expertise die is used to represent your character’s special training. It starts as 1d4 and can go up to 1d8. If you are granted expertise from more than one source, you do not roll 2d4. Instead, the dice increases by one step to 1d6.
• Well-developed systems for travel, strongholds, downtime, and crafting.

About Me
Hello! I’m Helen and am a new GM. I am running this short adventure for practice before a longer campaign and to introduce people to Level Up A5e. Ultimately, I would like to find a group of people who mesh well and have fun playing TTRPGs together.
I have been playing DnD for about 8 years, including several high-level campaigns. I have been playing Level Up Advanced 5e for over two and a half years. That group is run by one of the original designers of Level Up. She and another player both publish content on DriveThruRPG. I am used to having respectful rules discussions at the table.
I decided to try GMing because I love seeing other characters use their special abilities. I have also found I love creating villians, people, places, and secrets for the PCs to interact with.

Other Important Information:
• Looking for experienced players over 21 years old who can commit to the listed day and time.
• We will be using rules as written.
• Combat will probably happen most sessions.
• Character death is a possibility. The dice gods can be fickle.
• We will use milestones for advancement.
• No characters who are evil or not committed to the group.
• We will be using lines and veils, though this is a PG adventure.
• Everyone is responsible for fun at the table.
• Discrimination and disrespect because of race, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, or disablity will not be tolerated.
