For anyone who hasn't played the classic adventure this is your chance to experience it with minimal changes (updated to 5.5/2024 rules but story kept the same). Feel the foreboding dread of an ancient and cunning evil that has taken notice of you. Learn the history of the land to try to escape from it, or succumb to the allure of darkness.
This module is one of the most beloved of the last generation and I want to share that experience with you. Expect NPCs that delight and turn your stomach, battles that feel unfair but somehow you manage to survive (maybe), and a land that desperately needs heroes but punishes them at every turn. Most of the contents of this module are truly wonderful and with a little delicacy the unpolished bits can go completely unnoticed.
The Pitch -
A world lost to time and darkness, where an evil Overlord controls everything, has drawn you in. Trapped, you must find a way to survive, escape, or overthrow this evil. Most inhabitants have given over to despair, feeling the endless weight of time, loss, and powerlessness beat them into submission. Yet some continue to resist. Can you gather the allies, artifacts, and knowledge necessary to defeat this great evil before it consumes you? You must, or be forced to join the endless ranks of hopeless dregs, or possibly an even worse fate.
Before anyone is officially in the game (no matter what the system says) I will need to have a short to medium conversation with each player about expectations, their history with TTRPGs/D&D, how comfortable they are with character death, and general vibes. In previous games these conversations have been between 40 minutes and 3 hours (usually it devolves to people happily talking about games they love for way too long). While way are playing a game together we are also creating a weird online friend group that could last for years. Making sure that the table is the right fit is hard, but doing it helps the game and everyone involved feel more at ease and relaxed (even in a horror game).
