The Balance of Power

The balance of power in the world is shifting.

The year is 3519, The Year of Desire and Despair.
Eileanar is home to the finest colleges and universities in Netheril. It is ruled by the man who holds the title of the youngest archwizard ever, though these days, he's nearing his 400th birthday, and has somewhat recently become a lich.
All is not well in the Empire of Magic, but looking at the day to day behaviors of the people, you'd never know it.

In the world below, another empire is growing. The Cormyrian Empire is an old nation with unparalleled military might. The great elven empire of Cormanthyr has recently joined the Cormyrian Empire, nearly quadrupling the size and population, and granting the Cormyrian queen a title of "the Great Uniter", leading folk to believe that she may conquer the world. Though Selgaunt holds out, much of the rest of the "south" lies in Cormyrian territories. Netherese territories bordering on Cormyr are uneasy, and the Peace Summit in Eileanar last year was a failure.

Cormyr has had open trade with Netheril for most of Netheril's history and has even assisted in battle on occasion. It's rumored that Ioulaum, the most powerful arcanist in Netheril, the man who created the first enclave and the closest thing to an emperor that Netheril has, is a personal friend of the fair queen of Cormyr, and there is a buzz about Eileanar that Karsus and Ioulaum are still yet competing for her hand in marriage.
Because the treaty failed, Ioulaum left to return to his own enclave, leaving Karsus to his own devices. The nature of the failure of the treaty is unknown by the local folk, but there's no shortage of rumor. The assassination attempt on the Cormyrian Queen was foiled by a group of people in the city, but it cost them their safety in the city, so they fled.

The city of Suzail, capital of Cormyr, is where the group now makes their home and is attempting to deal with the assassins, who have targeted them instead, for ruining whatever their plan was. Three of five have been dealt with, leaving two remaining, including an elusive entity that seems unreasonably powerful.

(This is Paradox D&D. My campaign world is a modified Forgotten Realms, with distinct changes in politics and the cosmos. This campaign world has over 25 years of play, and thus, is heavily developed, and shaped somewhat by actions of players past.
This game will be played with Pathfinder rules. The game is at Level 15.

It will be run as a combination between voice and text. Please do not apply if you cannot do voice.)
