Are YOU a main character? (No knowledge of Digimon, Appmon, or Cortex Plus is required to join this game. Details below!)
Anyone can use a smartphone app, but what most people don't know is that each app has an Appli Monster (Appmon for short) living inside it! These Appmon are digital creatures that use their special abilities to carry out their app's functions. Unfortunately, Appmon can be infected by viruses, which can make them use these functions to cause heaps of trouble! And when trouble strikes, it's down to certain valiant Appmon to seek out human partners so they can fight these malfunctions together, wherever they may be!
Without a human's help, an Appmon can't materialise into the real world - doing so is called AppRealising, and only a human with a special device called an AppliDrive can help them do it! In other words, the Appmon are gonna need YOUR help to stop the viruses before they plunge the world into chaos!
-----Game Summary-----
Appmon Unite! is a character-focused game that will make use of the Cortex Plus system, primarily its Heroic variant. While it's most obviously based on the TV show Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, it'll draw inspiration from a few other sources - the video game Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth in particular.
In this game, human characters will team up with their digital partners to battle all kinds of digital opponents, all the while struggling with friendships, emotions, and character development. While some scenes will probably wind up pretty emotional and characters will likely struggle with being angry, sad, or afraid, the tone is, overall, bright - the main characters of this story are here to grow as people and discover new things about themselves... whether it's their courage, friendship, love, knowledge, sincerity, reliability, hope, or even light.
...and with THAT clunky reference out of the way, let's get to the character submission guidelines, shall we?
-----Character Submission Guidelines-----
This time around, our main characters are high school students whose are used to technology being a part of their daily lives. Having been raised in an environment full of phones and computers, they often find themselves making use of apps... perhaps with a tendency to prefer certain kinds.
For each character, please write out the following:
Name
Age/School Year*
General Appearance
Personality
Then, simply fill out the following questionnaire:
*EDIT: Since the setting isn't set in stone, write this as the equivalent grade in the U.S. education system - e.g. a Japanese 1st-year and an American sophomore would both be written as "Grade 10"
Question Time:
Q: Main character? Just what do you mean by that?
A: What makes someone a compelling "main character" is gonna be a little different for everyone, so I'm quite interested to see a variety of reasons that they match up in different peoples' heads. But, if you want something more concrete to go on, probably the most important trait of a "main character" in this context is that they take action and DO things. However, there are lots of other things that can define main-characterhood, so you can get a little creative here if you feel so inclined.
Q: What's the setting? Should my character be a particular nationality?
A: Think of the very basic setting as being "a city in the near future, when information technology is more advanced (and important) than ever". The setting's particulars will be determined by the characters - we'll go through their backstories together and see how their lives and the world at large have intertwined so far. Similarly, don't feel locked in to having your characters be a specific nationality - the setting will be finalised as a group, and we'll decide what makes the most sense for the team then!
-----Buddy Appmon Guidelines-----
Every character is going to have an Appmon partner - their Buddy Appmon! This Appmon will be with them throughout their adventure, helping guide them through the rocky road of life while also helping them fight against the new digital menace! While your Buddy Appmon is perhaps the most important NPC your character will interact with, IT IS NOT MANDATORY THAT YOU ADD ONE TO YOUR CHARACTER APPLICATION. The second question on the character questionnaire will point towards the kind of Appmon your character would likely bond with - from there, you can add in a few more details in this section of your application, as specific or as general as you like! Anything you leave out, I will fill in. For example, you could write that you think your character would bond with some kind of camera-related Appmon who focuses on manipulating light and images, and I could make one based on that. Or, you could write that your character would wind up partnered with Filtermon, an Appmon you thought of whose ability is to alter how digital objects are percieved by "tinting" them in various ways - and who could even alter the perception of other Appmon by making them see everything in a certain way. Write out as little or as much as you want - or even discuss it with me! Just remember that I won't be finalising any Appmon until the final player group is selected.
In this section, OPTIONALLY write out:
-Your Appmon's main function: what kind of app does it run on an actual phone? Appmon run all kinds of things on your phone - search apps, game apps, music apps, scheduling/calendar apps, your actual phone/calling function, messenger apps, security software, hacking tools, system settings, the thing that makes the light really bright so you can use your phone as a flashlight... Appmon can breathe life into even the most mundane of functions, so don't be afraid to get a little creative!
-Your Appmon's abilities: how does your Appmon fight against its enemies in the digital world? What are some creative applications of the function it usually handles? Remember, in the digital world, even something like message spam can overload an opponent, and functions can get used in very unique ways - such as setting map destination pointers to guide homing missiles!
-Your Appmon's appearance: how are aspects of its function incorporated into its appearance? Does it look like a robot? A microphone? A dog or a cat? (As a note, most standard-level Appmon are pretty small (and often kinda cute) - the Appmon's everyday form is its least advanced, so keep that in mind!)
-Your Appmon's personality: This one can be very important! Make sure to think about this a little - how do you want your Appmon's personality to contrast with your human character's? A shy character might be pushed by a more impetuous Appmon... or maybe they'd have an even shyer Appmon who finds trust in their partner's gentle demeanour! Generally, Appmon and their human partners are pretty good friends, but that doens't mean they can't butt heads. Think of how your Appmon can cause your character to change the way they usually act!
Question Time:
Q: What's all this about creating an Appmon? Aren't there a whole bunch of Appmon to choose from?
A: Because of how much new information keeps arriving about Appmon, I've decided to focus more on player-generated content for this game. With the show being this new and the information being so volatile, most of what we'd do with regular ones would more or less be us doing our own thing with them anyways, so with this, players can have a bit more freedom. Plus, this way we get to be extra creative, and it makes things easier on people who are new to the setting! (As a note, if you're familiar enough with Appmon to be asking this question, feel free to make Appmon with functions similar to ones that exist already - if you want to portray a search function Appmon differently than how Gatchmon handles it, that's great! If you're disappointed in some of the Appmon designs, go ahead and do something you like better with the same concept! The world's your Syakomon. ;3)
-----Final Miscellaneous Details-----
The game will take place primarily using voice - skype calls will be used for this, so I'll want to ask for skype details once you're invited to the game.
The final number of players will be anywhere from 3-6, aiming towards the lower end of the scale.
Right now, the game is scheduled to take place at 3:30 PM PST on Tuesdays, but this time is not set in stone - let me know if you're interested, but can't make this time.
And finally, remember: we gather to play these games to have fun together. Respect for other players is paramount, and that especially means respecting their comfort zones. There will be in-character drama and all that for sure, but our (players too!) number one priority is always to make sure that everyone's having fun. Always respect your fellow players' needs and try to involve them in ways that make things fun for everyone!
Now then, I think that should be enough for now... it's time to start the search! Entering search terms... "players for an Appmon game". Ready? Deep Dive!
