Let's Play Some D&D (Critical Role-style)

Hi! The name is Joe Wendt, I am 20 years young, and I am a critter through and through. But to be clear, I have very little personal D&D experience. I have just been watching the show Critical Role on and off for about a year now and pretty much nonstop for the last 3 weeks. I decided that, although its quite ambitious, I would try to start a similar game. And I'm here on Roll20 looking for some people with which that dream may be achieved. I'm looking for probably 3-5 other players as well as a DM.

Players of any and all experience levels are welcome as long as the yearning for the thrill of adventure burns in their hearts!! Hell, first-time DM's would be welcome as well. It can be a learning experience for everyone! I would like to get an even mix of ladies and gents, just from an environment perspective. The game will be pretty role-play heavy so be prepared to embrace the character and have a helluva lot of fun!

The start date of the game is flexible and can be changed based on interest, availability, etc etc. But for my sake I'm really stuck with Saturday nights as that is all my work schedule will allow for. I would certainly hope to maintain a weekly game if we can, but I also understand that sometimes schedules get in the way and we can definitely find ways to work around that.

Hey guys! The amount of applications has been super overwhelming. If you are here to post an application, there is a very good chance, at this point, that we won't even get around to reading it. It's nothing against you, you're not inadequate, it's just there are already 40 applications here and we've already started talking to people to narrow the group down to 5 or 6.

If you have not received a message yet, there is a good chance it isn't coming. I'm sorry. The truth is, there were a ton of absolutely wonderful applications but we had to find some way to narrow it down. Our methods were not in any way a judgement a harsh judgement on you as a person, what they were was seemingly random stabs in the dark with hopes of a good outcome. When it comes down to it, the information gained in the background gives us very little to actually go on, it does not at all give a good idea of what playing a game with you would look like, and I do not know how to fix that. Also we're not collecting some perfect A-team elite D&D group, we're just trying to get some people together to have some fun and play in a game of D&D that we all can be most happy with. There is not simply stated metric that we can use to determine who we should have chosen. Most of you sound like wonderful, enthusiastic players that any DM would be proud to have in the their game.

I absolutely encourage you all to talk to each other, you can even use this post as a means to do so if you wish. Among you there have to be some people willing to try their hand at DM'ing, yes it's intimidating, yes it looks like a lot of work, yes it can be hard, but it is unbelievably rewarding. If any of you do decide that you want to try DMing a game, even if you have done so before, feel free to reach out to me here on roll20. I'd be glad to help in any way that I can and if my help can get 5, 6 or even 7 more people from this post playing an awesome game of DnD I would be happy and excited to lend it.

You not getting a response was not a failure. It is, for many of you, the beginning of your D&D "careers" and it is an opportunity for you, now more informed about what you want in a game as a result of your introspection, to better find like-minded individuals who want to play in the same kind of D&D game as you do.

It is my hope, my dream, that this post leads to the formation of 6 or 7 groups, not just my own. That we all can see this as the beginning, the jumping off point, of endless adventures. Do not give up, let this be your time to lead, to make something that you will remember for the rest of your life.
