The Shifting City

The Shifting City is a place quite unlike any other. A huge city it is home to hundreds of thousands of people. But life in The Shifting City is a constant battle against the unknown. The city gets its namesake due to its remarkable properties. Every month like clockwork, for as long as the history of the city has been written, the city and all of its inhabitant’s planeshift to a random plane of existence. Resources in the city itself are finite and daily life is only possible due to several groups working together tirelessly to aid the populace. The first group is an order of druids and mages who work around the clock on logistics to ensure that the city has all the food and water necessary to support such a large population in such a limited space. The second group is the “Companies,” brave groups of men and women who venture into the unknown planes to pillage the land for raw goods and resources. And finally the third group, the builders. Who are comprised of an “alien” race known as the Xixchil, large bipedal insects these are possibly the original builders of The Shifting City, though if they are the Xixchil themselves have forgotten this fact. Nevertheless they are master engineers who engage in a constant war of building and destruction with the city itself, as the forces exerted upon the city during a shift are comparable to an earthquake.
You will begin play as new hires to a newly formed Company the day before the next shift.

The campaign will be more heavily roleplaying focused although honestly you can expect some sort of combat situation every session. I am open to homebrew races and classes athough I will have final approval on everything. The game itself is somewhat sandbox and eventually allows the players to pursue their own goals. Do you wish to start your own Company? Explore the secrets of the Shifting City? Become a crime syndicate working in the shadows to increase your own wealth? Open a little shop pandering to the many Company Men looking for equipment? There are many possibilities.
In your application please tell me a little about yourself, your experience level, how comfortable you are roleplaying in a group, what you would be looking forward in a campaign. Please give loose character concept and very brief and loose backstory (characters themselves will be created during a session 0 which will include more lore about the Shifting City.)
