I hope you're ready to make some serious cash.
The proud land of Brevoy flies a flag marked with a two-headed red dragon. The significance of this symbolism is deep, as it represents a kingdom that has always been divided in two halves. Choral the Conqueror united the lands of Issia and Rostland just over two centuries ago, but holding the two once-nations together under a single banner has been a struggle just barely managed by the man's lineage. But with the Rogarvian family having vanished down to the last in a single night over a decade ago, Brevoy's already tenuous claims to stability have been waning and a civil war between northern Issia and southern Rostland seems inevitable.
In an attempt to secure its southern border against banditry and monsters, Rostland has chartered several adventurers to clean out the so-called "Stolen Lands". It is the intention of Rostland and its famed Swordlords to encourage new nations to spring up in these untamed wilds, as in doing so it both spares itself the dangers of a weak border and provides itself potential allies in case war breaks out, all without making a display of overt power-grabs to Brevoy's crown.
Or at least... That's what the situation would be if this were regular Kingmaker. But I've made some changes to the game, aiming to remove the lackluster Mass Combat rules from the adventure, putting more focus on the politics and tensions of Brevoy, and replace Kingmaker's normal villain and plot. So instead we have "Blingmaker", an adventure where things deviate a little bit from the norm! Four months before the start of the campaign, a giant, golden explosion occurred deep within the Stolen Lands, an event heard even miles away in Brevoy. The royal crown was quick to blame the explosion on bandits with a rather unconvincing explanation, and the general opinion in Rostland is that this is a government cover-up. Fortunately, if it is a cover-up it's one that gives the Swordlords a perfect excuse to send brave adventurers to defeat and capture the dangerous bandits responsible.
The PCs, having received a charter to explore the Stolen Land, conquer the wilderness, eliminate the unruly bandits, and investigate the strange explosion, will be in position to eventually start a kingdom of their own, just like in a normal game of Kingmaker. But as the campaign goes on, it will diverge further and further from "standard" Kingmaker and ultimately end up moving in a completely different direction.
The BLING in Blingmaker comes from one of these changes of direction. Players in this game should expect their PCs to become filthy rich, even by the standards of PCs. This game uses Automatic Bonus Progression (with a few changes described in the chargen rules) but will not only still hand out full WBL, but even extra beyond that! I certainly expect some of this money to go towards equipping the PCs, but I'm looking for players who want to funnel these funds into their kingdom and into unrepentant extravagance. If you can't imagine what sort of things your PC would want to buy besides more equipment for themselves, this might not be the right game for you. What "RP things" your character would want to spend money on doesn't matter as much as knowing that they have such desires. They can be greedy jerks who want a mansion full of golden statues of themselves or they can be charitable souls who want to pour their funds into educating and feeding the common folk, or anything in between. Beyond that, each PC will have a special money sink in the form of a custom template called "Gilded", which makes characters stronger the wealthier they are (I'll go out of my way to mention that again that greed is NOT a mandatory character trait, just in case the first time wasn't clear). This template will be acquired very early in the campaign, likely within the first two or three sessions, as a result of the PCs coming across particular plot-relevant objects.
That all said, the starting premise of this campaign is still very much similar to your standard Kingmaker game. The Kingmaker Player's Guide will still function for giving you an idea of what kind of character would fit into the game, although provided alongside the Player's Guide is a detailed explanation of some of Blingmaker's more specific details.
Please note the listed time is NOT the expected game time for sessions, but rather the deadline for player selection. The actual game time will be determined based of the availability of the selected players. I'm in Central Time Zone, which is GMT-5. My schedule has recently (as of earlier today, coincidentally) changed some, and my availability is now limited to Monday through Thursday, from 4:30 PM to midnight, or any time on Sunday. Fridays are entirely unavailable, but it miiight be possible for me to make Saturday mornings work. In terms of session length, I'm aiming for something in the area of four to six hours, based on what works for everyone involved.
