Dark Marsh

Intro

You are an adventurer longing for new experiences but struggling to find a way to make ends meet so you take a simple job guarding a shipment on its way down the coast to the next major city in your homeland. The ship sets sail early in the morning and at first things seem to be going well. The hours pass uneventfully and it looks more and more like this job will be some quick easy money. You might be slightly disappointed by the lack of money but at this point your just happy to be getting payed a decent wage for a pretty straight forward job. Then, all of a sudden your vessel is caught in a surprise mist that seems to appear out of nowhere much more rapidly than should have been possible. As the mist steadily thickens, the waters become more and more turbulent and the helmsman seems unsure of your course.

This is when things go from bad to worse. Waves of increasing size slam heavily against the ship. The momentum of the entire situation building at a truly impressive rate that would be amazing to behold if it wasn't so terrifying. This all goes on for what seems an eternity, but was in reality most likely less than an hour. Just as you begin to think that the ship is doomed and your life is forfeit, the water suddenly calms and the mist parts. This happens so much faster than the already surprising pace at which the commotion built that for a moment your unsure if it really happened at all. As you examine your surroundings to try and understand your situation, you realize that nothing is familiar to you. From the smell of the air to the color of the water everything is slightly, but noticeably, different. Even more dramatically, the coast that was on your left is gone and the rising sun that was on your right is now behind you. Whats more you can see in the distance in front of the ship and off slightly to the right is land.. unfamiliar looking land

Info

This campaign takes place in a setting of my own creation. The player characters are completely new to this world and will have no information about this strange new realm. Everything, the landscape, politics, customs, religions, and all the other things that make up the fabric of a place will be unknown to them. They will have to work diligently at a careful exploration of the land to uncover these details. The politics and intrigues of this new realm will be nearly as much a part of the game as combat and tactics, and they present an ever present danger to the player characters just as much as any monster or megalomaniacal villain. Please see the application thread for more information.
