(FATE) Bergungskreuzer "Möwe" / Salvage Cruiser "Seagull"

Im Jahre 1909 drang eine außerirdische Flugscheibe von der Größe Thüringens in die Atmosphäre der Erde ein und positionierte sich über dem Atlantik. Die Besatzung der Flugscheibe suchte nicht den Kontakt mit den Menschen, sondern begann sofort den Planeten zu aquaformen.
Der Meeresspiegel begann augenblicklich anzusteigen und die niedrig gelegenen Länder der Erde zu überfluten. Die Niederlande, einst eine Nation stolzer Seefahrer, Piraten und Kauffahrer, war eines der ersten Opfer, die Europa hinnehmen musste. Selbst das Einschreiten der britischen Marine brachte keinen großen Erfolg, beschädigte aber zumindest die Flugscheibe.
Während die Fluten immer weiter anstiegen, entschloss sich der deutsche Kaiser Wilhelm II. einzuschreiten und befahl seinen Kriegsschiffe anzugreifen. Deutschland würde siegen und die Welt vor dem Untergang retten - oder dabei zugrunde gehen. Deutschem Mut und Kampfeswillen war es dann zu verdanken, dass die außerirdische Flugscheibe empfindlich getroffen wurde und in den Atlantik stürzte, um dort in die unbekannten Tiefen zu sinken. Hussa! Die Welt war gerettet.

Nun schreiben wir das Jahr 1982. Der Meeresspiegel ist seit mehr als siebzig Jahren konstant auf 125 Meter über Normalnull, der maritime Gedanken spiegelt sich in Militär und Zivilleben wieder. Deutschland dominiert als friedliche Weltmacht unter einer gesunden und starken Kaiserin Mechthilde das Weltgeschehen.

Dies sind die Abenteuer des Bergungskreuzers MÖWE, dessen Mannschaft sich Tag für Tag den Widrigkeiten und Gefahren auf hoher See aussetzen, um in riskanten Unternehmungen Kunstschätze, Wertmetalle und Antiquitäten zu bergen. Der tägliche Kampf um Treibstoff, Nahrung und Ersatzteile ist kräftezehrend und gefährlich, doch die tapferen Frauen und Männer an Bord der MÖWE würden mit niemandem auf der Welt tauschen wollen ...

Bergungskreuzer MÖWE (Salvage Cruiser SEAGULL) is a retro-tech maritime setting set in 1982 in an alternative history.

In 1909 an alien flying saucer of the size of New Jersey entered the Earth's atmosphere and positioned itself over the Atlantic. The flying saucer's crew did not seek contact to the human population, but instead started "aquaforming" the whole planet.

The sea level all across the Earth's oceans immediately began to rise 125 meters (400 feet) above their normal level, flooding vast regions of lower situated countries faster than any expert would have thought possible. The Netherlands, once a great nation of proud seafarers, pirates and traders, was one of the first casualties Europe had to take. Even the intervention of the British Navy did not succeed, although the flying saucer took some damage.

While the floods were still rising, the German Emperor Wilhelm II decided to intervene and ordered his warships to attack. Germany would be victorious and save the world from certain destruction - or die in the attempt. Thanks to the German courage and fighting spirit the flying saucer was critically hit, and it crashed into the Atlantic, sinking down to the darkest depths. Huzzah! The world was saved.

Now we have the year 1982. The sea level is for over 70 years constant at 125 meters above the former normal sea level. The seas have turned much more dangerous than ever before. Even the maritime lifeforms are unusually aggressive versus humans. Most ships are advised to be armed - well armed! Constant storms prohibit any kind of practical air traffic, so that travel and trade is focussed on the sea. All over the world, but especially in Germany maritime tropes are commonplace in military and civil life. Germany is the peaceful political major power under a healthy and strong Empress Mechthilde.

The sea: humanity's final frontier. These are the voyages of the salvage ship Bergungskreuzer MÖWE on its mission to explore sunken cities, old shipwrecks, and dangerous regions to salvage sunken art, antiquities, rare metals and other treasures. To boldly go where only a few dare to go and even fewer live to return. The daily struggle for fuel, food and spare parts is exhausting and dangerous, and the only easy day is yesterday, but the MÖWE's brave women and men wouldn't have it any other way …
