[HackMaster 5th Edition] Frandor’s Keep

Frandor’s Keep: a lonely military fortification built to defend human civilization from Orkin invaders many years ago. It sits on an island just at the cusp of the Tanara Falls, a vicious waterfall with a steep 250-foot drop fed from the equally dangerous Tanara River. Rumors from all around the Young Kingdoms (independent city-states formerly under the yoke of the Kalamaran empire) tell of the wealth to be gained at the Keep. Whether it’s vast deposits of silver and gold to be mined, extraordinary bounties to collect, or breathtaking sights to see, many a tale or two about the destination has found the ears of even the least interested of folks.

But perhaps these rumors are too good to be true?

Nevertheless, you sit in the Green Gryffin Inn, at the village of Vew, seeking shelter amidst a torrential downpour. After the first two days, you wonder if it’ll ever stop, and if you’ll ever reach the fabled Frandor’s Keep…

Frandor’s Keep is a mini-campaign set in the Kingdoms of Kalamar™ campaign setting. It is designed to serve as an introduction to both the HackMaster game as well as the world of Tellene.

HackMaster differs from other RPGs mainly due to its focus on the journey to heroism. In HackMaster, characters begin play only a little more experienced than the average folk. The draw of the game is to overcome difficult challenges as novice adventurers on the path to fame, fortune, and everything in between. Thus, HackMaster is a game of hardship, and its revolutionary combat system is no exception. Because of the mechanic of “penetrating” dice, no outcome is guaranteed, and a losing battle could easily become a winning one (and vice versa)! HackMaster plays like an old-school game with crunchy rules, but during play you will see how well the system flows and works.

The Basic rules can be found here.
