A hundred years ago, the wizard Longeye unified the warring kingdoms under the banner of the Dragonrend Protectorate. The Protectorate has brought a century of peace and safety to the region through its institutionalization of magecrafts. Criminals are punished, renegade wizards are hunted down, dissidents are silenced, and the very worst are thrown in the Pit. You are that worst.
Heretics is a one-shot setting with ideas blatantly stolen from Suicide Squad, Minority Report, and so on. The game will be a dungeon crawl featuring a group of 3-6 evil aligned characters forced to work together to protect the security of Dragonrend in ways the state can’t acknowledge.
In this episode, a team will be assembled to fight a cult gathering outside an important city. You must eliminate the threat before your handler deems you a failure and flips your killswitch.
I typically run an RP heavy game, even during dungeon crawls, so expect your character and motivations to feature into the game. As RP and immersion is typically my focus, I am not an expert on player classes and, while new players are welcome and will be guided, players should understand the rules of the game and their class/spell mechanics. This game will also feature uneven player levels and some heavy hitting monsters, so be prepared to look at combats from multiple angles. I would prefer everyone to handle character creation autonomously, but if someone’s new I’ll give you an overview. Since it’s a villains game, I’m going to accept any race or class in the published rulebooks (including monster races). We’ll use array stats for simplicity. Starting levels will be in tier 2 (I’ll let you know). Combat will be on a map, with some RP elements in theatre of the mind. Please post with your RPG experience and interest in the game.
The fee for the game is $5 Roll20 credit to cover map cost. If it was a live game you’d be bringing me snacks, so I figure it balances out.
