Long ago the lands were united under a great empire ruled by Dragonborn. This empire held dominion over both the northern lands of Braxis and and southern lands of Valinor, two major sub continents. Over time the Dragonborn, due to their declining numbers, began to rely more and more heavily on other races to manage the realm and protect its borders.
It became clear that the Dragonborn could no longer hold the realm through strength alone. They divided their lands into separate kingdoms, each ruled by local lords and nobles who paid homage to a Dragonborn High Lord. Eventually there were so few Dragonborn worthy to rule that the lesser races began to be risen up as High Lords themselves.
Two centuries ago many of the High Lords of Valinor raised their arms in rebellion and declared themselves independent of imperial influence. War ravaged the land for several decades, the empire was victorious but at great cost. All of the emperors sons had been slain and with no clear heir it seemed as though it was only a matter of time before the empire crumbled entirely. The human High Lord Mangar Alderian, who had been vastly influential in defeating the rebellion was chosen as successor to the imperial throne, much to the anger of the other races.
So far the Alderian rule has been marked with tyranny, destruction and bloodshed. In the last twenty years alone emperor Maegar Alderian has doubled the size of the imperial army, destroyed holy sites, slain and burned the villages those who speak out to rashly and stripped much of the land of resources. Now, a hundred and fifty years after the Alderians took their seat at the high throne, rebellion stirs once again.
