You were born in the Empire of Xucaria, colloquially known as "the empire" as it is the last bastion of civilization and perhaps humanoid life that remains in the world. A great event that occurred a thousand years ago seemingly flooded the world with monstrous creatures and entities of unknown origin. Xucaria, being a large, militaristic empire that encompasses an entire continent was spared from this apocalypse as the creatures could only approach by air or by sea, then had to contend with the armies of Queen Nixandra upon arrival. Shortly after the Queen's rule began, she used her great magical prowess to create an enormous cloud of poison that surrounds the continent to kill any creature passing through it. Though a few creatures did manage to get through, they were so weak from passing through the cloud that they didn't put up much of a fight and were quickly and easily dispatched. Eventually, the attacks stopped altogether, and a comfortable peace fell upon the land.

Since then, the Kingdom had been living in isolation for nearly a thousand years. Every 10 years, the empire sent a special ship and crew to the southern continent to investigate and see if there were any signs of civilization re-emerging and to gauge how dangerous the lands down there still are. The hope is, in time, perhaps some of the native peoples may reappear or the monsters disperse enough from the coast that a foothold could be established and maybe one day the empire could expand to these lands or to forge alliances with anyone who lives there currently.

Publicly, these expeditions always return with great treasure hoards and stories of glory and victory for the empire, but the assessment is that the land is still too dangerous to tame. However, a few believe or perhaps even know for certain that it is all a lie, and these expedition ships never come back. Stories spread by friends or family of those who have gone on these expeditions, never to return have circulated. Some believe it, some believe the official story, some just don't care either way as they're perfectly happy living in Xucaria where it is safe from monsters or rival kingdoms.

However, the 1000th year Anniversary of the founding of the Empire is only a few days away and it coincides with the timing of the next expedition...

So, my name is Shasz, and i'll be your DM (maybe) for this little campaign. It takes place in a homebrew world I have created. The general jist of it is you're going to be exploring and rediscovering the ancient world that existed long ago that no one knows anything about anymore after being separated from it for so long. So you won't have any maps, any knowledge of history will be very difficult to know and only apply to things as they were more than a thousand years ago as anything since then is unknown to you or anyone else in your society. I'll be using a lot of homebrew creatures and things so you never really know what to expect. Don't assume you know what something is or how it works, because you might be surprised.

I'm looking for 4 players ideally, I might go up to 5 under certain conditions. I'm an experienced player but i'm new to DMing so try not to be too critical. New players are welcome and probably preferred because it's just more fun in my opinion when everyone is new and learning everything for the first time and you have a lot less rules lawyering going on.

So if all that sounds good, drop an application below and include the keyword "Hotdog" somewhere in your post just to show me that you read this. :)
