Times have been difficult for the city-state of Tellius. They abandoned their monarchy hundreds of years ago in place of a theocracy to the LG god of community, duty, compasion, and justice, Mitra. There are no gods, everyone knew this, but in Tellius, they believed that if they prayed enough, that he would come and bring a new golden age for not just them, but the whole continent.
Recently, after a large meteor shower occurred, many Tellians received revelations and encouragement from their image of Mitra. While they knew this wasn't quite a real deity, it was real in their hearts, and this lead to a resurgence of divine magic users, a nearly lost art only held by about 5 people in the whole world previously.
The meteor shower came with some other wondrous events. A small island was spotted in what was formerly a vast, empty ocean, devoid even of sea creatures. Suddenly, swarms of people jumped to ready boats to explore the ocean (See the sister game Inspired Voyage). Great news, yes, but there was also great potential for chaos and unnecessary violence.
Vivian Dawton and Alexei Brightwall decided to form the Order of Saint Clarissa, a branch of the church dedicated to traveling the world to help those in need and to help keep the peace. As they form plans to explore the water frontier, you decided to join them. Ever since the meteor shower, you've been inspired to live an exciting life, but you would rather explore the frontier with like-minded honorable knights and clergy than join some aspiring pirates.
