Introduction
Hi everyone! I'm Mark, and I'm a new GM. As a player, I've been playing D&D 5e for around 1 year now across two campaigns, and Star Wars: Edge of the Empire as well for around 4 months.
I'm enjoying a lot with this hobby, so I've decided to dip my toes into GMing in bite-sized portions, hence my preparation of one shots!
I would like to host 4 of you to join me in a fun 3-hour long one-shot. I will give preference to beginners and people new to the hobby, as I would like to open up the world of D&D to more people, as my patient DMs have done to me.
Story Premise
You, the adept adventurers of the Sword Coast, have been on quite a few journeys already - slaying town-threatening goblins, settling clan disputes within human encampments through your wit and words, and maybe even captured and sent your friendly neighborhood necromancer to jail!
But even heroes need a day off just enjoying drinks at a tavern, listening to the bard sing, and tend to your other non-adventurer hobbies like sewing, cooking, or gardening (or whatever you're into!).
However, as soon as you let your hair down, as one would expect, trouble arrives... but this time, confusingly, in the form of a sheep?
Character Creation
Alignment: No evil characters! I believe that intra-party conflict is detrimental to the enjoyment of the game, unless you are specifically looking for a game that highlights good vs evil, dilemmas, and the like. This one-shot is not one of them.
Level: We start at level 4. You have been adventuring for quite a while now that you're revered by the local townsmen and small villages that you've helped as a hero.
Races and classes: All options on the Player's Handbook and Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide are open. This is a short game, so let's keep it easy and simple to minimize the time spent on rulings. :) Multiclassing is fine.
Relationships: At the start of our session, we'll discuss how everyone knows each other. You can be a band of adventurers who decided that you can all do more good if you worked together, and have been doing so for a while. You can be a literal travelling band of bards. You can be mercenaries who capture marks and rewards together. Whatever we decide on, the requirement will be that everyone has an understanding that you are all in this together.
If you are a beginner and/or you don't have the books yet, and need help with creating a character, I will gladly help guide you with your options and we'll come up with something that I hope you will enjoy in our 3-hour joy ride. We shall do this before the session, anytime that we are both available.
Session details
As discussed in multiple points above, I estimate that we will spend about 3 hours on this one-shot, although obviously we can go for a bit longer or a bit quicker, depending on how things go.
We will use voice chat on discord.
This is a one-shot only, and we will not continue into a longer campaign! So if you've got a crazy character idea you've always wanted to try (The intellectual barbarian, the old guy who decided retirement is boring so he took up adventuring, or the mute bard who uses miming as a form of art), then go for it!
Of course, character tropes like the lawful good paladin, the everything-is-solved-via-punching barbarian are of course still fun as long as we establish that the whole party works together :)
How to apply
Reply to the discussion topic below called "Post applications here!" with the questions below. Copy and paste for ease!
Name:
Age (optional):
DND experience:
If you have a character concept in mind...
Why does your character adventure?
How well does your character work with others?
You are now travelling with a group of three other adventurers. If you were to decide, give me a short description of how the four of you got together and why
If you don't have a character concept in mind yet, that's fine too! Or if you feel like answering the questions above even though you aren't sure about what character you'll play yet, that's also alright :)
Also optional, please tell me more about yourself! I believe that the key for a successful game is a good relationship and understanding between the GM and players. It would help me if you gave me a small insight of who I'll eventually be playing with, even for a short while. It could be things like, "I love pancakes", "I don't eat pineapples with my pizza", or "I don't eat pizza with my pineapple", or whatever you feel like sharing.
End
Thank you for taking the time reading everything (or some of it... it still counts!).
Please let me know if you have any questions at all in the Questions discussion topic below. Cheers!
