The World of Gielinor

*Update 1/7/18: Currently looking for 2 players to join the adventure part-way through (~3 sessions have been played so far). A new player will begin on the same level as the other players. Additionally, applicants should avoid the following classes: cleric, rogue, monk and druid.

Welcome to the World of Gielinor! Your adventure, full of intrigue, mystery, combat, and discovery, awaits! A game suited for players of all experience levels.

About the World:
Gielinor is a vast home-brewed world inspired by the playable world in the MMORPG game (Old School) Runescape. With cities, wildernesses, dungeons, and secrets of all kinds and sizes, Gielinor offers the perfect atmosphere for a balanced and diverse campaign of DND.

Gielinor, at its core, is an ancient world overseen by distantly competing gods, who historically fought for power and presently fight for influence among its inhabitants. Despite its age, much of the land remains unpioneered and unsettled, offering distinct opportunity (and danger) to those who seek it. Those lands which have been colonized vary drastically, and will offer distinct perspectives and opportunities. Magic, though not necessarily abundant, is not uncommon and used for a varying of purposes, both good and evil. Races and creatures of all kinds exist, each with various motivations and roles within the environment around them.

The campaign's adventurers will begin in a relatively small and plain city, tasked with a simple job. Completion of this task, however, may just spiral out of control, ultimately leading to a boundless journey of the biggest proportions imaginable.

About the Campaign:
This traditional hero to zero campaign will be entirely home brewed, but will stick to the core and basics of DND 5e. Characters will begin at level 1 and will (hopefully) grow along the way, possibly all the way to level 20.

All aspects of great DND will be put on display, including complex plots, functional storytelling, exciting combat, bountiful exploration and (my personal favorite) the chance at lots of loot!

This game will not be entirely sandbox nor entirely railroaded; but rather a good balance between the two. Additionally, the players backgrounds will be made to interweave into the world (in very major ways where possible).

I will generally abide by the traditional rules found in the DND 5e official published materials. However, this game will not be so strict as to absolutely diminish the "rule of cool". Ultimately, ambiguities and disagreements will be decided by the DM who will strive to make a decision that promotes consistency, play-ability, and fun for the entire group.

Players are expected to be invested in their characters, and make choices/decisions as if they were their characters (i.e. little/no metagaming). A player who excels in roleplay will be rewarded. All styles and experience level of players are welcome!

About the DM:
My name is Tim, I am in my mid 20's, and this will be my first time DM'ing. That being said, I am confident I can provide an exciting and well balanced campaign.

For a living, I am a prosecutor (criminal lawyer), which means I am constantly thinking on my feet, communicating with an audience, telling (true) entertaining stories, and taking into account multiple factors all at once. These skills will help me be a great DM for you!

Of course, I will remain open to (and ask for) feedback after every session of the campaign in hopes to get better and provide a better game for everyone.

The Logistics of the Campaign:
Games will be hosted every other week on Saturdays at 2pm EST. Games will generally last around 4 hours, will at least one 5-15 minute break. The game will be played via roll20 (for tabletop) and discord (for voice chat).

This schedule is concrete, and players who wish to join are expected to be able to attend sessions CONSISTENTLY. That being said, the occasional absence is certainly understandable, so long as you are willing to let the show go on without you!

The first session will be on 11/25/17 (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) at 2pm. This session will be a session-zero where we can discuss characters, work out technical difficulties, get to know each other, and possibly begin the first arch of the campaign.

For those Interested in Applying:
If you have read this far and are interested in playing, please click over to the player application thread and submit an application. To be considered, please include the following secret word to show you have read this post: cabbage.

Players who are organized, honest, demonstrate investment to their characters development and background, and seem reliable are most likely to be chosen.
