It's a modern homebrew setting campaign trying to stick to as close to 5e as possible. We have guns. A lot of guns. And uh... magic isn't really "common". This doesn't mean you aren't a magic user. You just keep in hidden. In fact, you most likely keep your magic use to yourself otherwise the government would be pounding on your door at midnight and taking you away to some underground facility to do experiments on you.
