Been an avid TRPG gamer for many years dating back to 1995(ish), I guess it began with Hero Quest, Warhammer, plus the emergence of video games and very early LAN-ing. I love the gaming aspect above all and tend to deter away from hack and slash reward generating or XP hoarding. The real value for me in gaming is the RP and the general fun of it all, plus experimenting with the freedoms that TRPG allow.
D&D next has given me new love for the game, I have a giant pile of old 3.5e books still that are mostly uselss now as I find the 5e rules much quicker and the general flow of play is faster. I find fast play and turn order is essential to a good game. indecisiveness leads to delays, frustrations and stoppages which as a DM I feel you need to facilitate as much as possible as you are also controlling the flow and it's up to you to turn it up or slow it down where necessary.
Currently have a good group of friends who are my players and we are ploughing through some pre-gen campaign settings in the beloved Forgotten Realms.
I'd be interested to host a Lost Mines of Phandelver starter campaign for some new players on a fortnightly basis.
