How Many Feet Is a Queen Bed?

A queen bed frame’s size will vary somewhat depending on the style. However, all frame models will be designed around the queen mattress dimensions, so these figures give us a good estimate for the size of the frame.

Standard queen bed dimensions are 60 inches by 80 inches, or 5 feet by 6 feet, 8 inches.

As this refers to the dimensions of the mattress itself, you can estimate an additional 2 to 5 inches for the extra bulk of the frame. So, a typical queen bed frame size will likely be between 62-65 x 82-85 inches.

Simple bed frames such as traditional metal rail frames or simple slatted platform frames, will have a relatively slim profile and won’t add much to the standard queen mattress size.

Bed frames with footboards and headboards will typically add more bulk. Depending on the style, expect an additional 3 to 5 inches over the size of the mattress itself.

Bed frames and platform beds with storage can add even more bulk. For these larger pieces, check with the manufacturer to obtain the exact dimensions.

If you are shopping for a queen mattress frame, it’s helpful to look at specific dimensions before purchasing. Ideally, you should measure the space you plan to use the new bed frame in, to get a feel for how well it will fit.

How To Find Queen Size Bed Measurements

Since bed frames can vary in size, you need to know the exact size of your bed frame before buying a mattress. The way you measure a bed frame depends on your bed frame.

Measure the length and width with a measuring tape. Take about an inch off of each end, which is two inches lengthwise and two inches widthwise. This can vary but two inches is a good standard.

Metal frame beds need less wiggle room while platform beds can be used either way as long as there isn’t any overhang. After you have your measurements, get whichever bed is the same size or slightly smaller than the space you have.
