I bought the Cook "Expert" box back in 1981 and had no idea what to make of it. The art was awesome. After flipping through it, I realized that you had to have a copy of Moldvay's "Basic" set. So I was eleven years old and got that for Christmas. I sat down and created a dungeon. It had one monster, a medusa. She petrified the party in the first 10 minutes of actual play. "No fun" they said. So I had to find other people to play with. Stopped playing RPGs in 1989. Found my old high school buddies again in 2010 and started playing 4th Edition with them. Enjoyed playing the game but would never DM it. In 2011, I went to my first gaming convention at Origins Game Fair in Ohio. I was introduced to Labyrinth Lord and fell into the "Old School". Now I can't get enough of it.
