"Roleplaying is a hobby not a lifestyle"
I have been role playing the better part of 35 years across a myriad of systems; most of that as a dm/gm/storyteller and rarely getting to play.
My preferences include party cohesion with a little social contracting at the forefront to scale the story, align backstories and party balance. I like to inject a little reality into my fantasy "good scifi or fantasy is plausible"; and hate when groups are established which you can predict will result in nothing but party infighting.
Telling/participating in epic tales that seem small in scope but take the characters across an expanse over time; tales that show character growth and explore themes; stories that you can fall into are the most fun.
Genre as long as there is a good story, characters and interactions; but while storytelling and role play is important; there needs to be well timed conflict to provide drama. I don't enjoy mindless dungeon crawls.
Role playing for me involves dice; otherwise I can go play make believe with my children. The dice however should not dominate the game as much as the story.
My current favorite systems would have to be DnD5E, White Wolf (VTM) and Champions 6E (for when we want crunchy and superheros)
Roleplaying at the end of the day is about the relationships you form; the time spent together. Respect for the people across the table from you.
I "can" play during weeknights in the evenings from 7pm-11pm CST but prefer to pick a solid day on the weekends.
