Name's Chris. Been gaming since '95, and been DMing since '96. I started with AD&D 2nd Edition (my preferred edition) in the Al-Qadim setting and have managed to try (or pick up and read) all kinds of different games: Basic Roleplaying/Call of Cthulhu, Rifts, Storyteller System, Star Wars D6, Star Trek, 7th Sea, etc.
As a DM, I tend towards high fantasy, dark fantasy, horror (of any time period), or exploration, with a strong emphasis on roleplaying, strong teamwork, player creativity/puzzle solving, and combat being less frequent yet incredibly deadly (and usually a last resort). Over time, I developed a preference for skill-based systems (such as Basic Roleplaying, the Storyteller system, and the D6 system) over level-based ones. However, while I'm more likely to run the former, I don't mind playing the latter, should that be what is offered.
At the moment, my preferred system(s) are the various d100 ones based on Basic Roleplaying/Call of Cthulhu/Runequest (which include Legend, Renaissance, OpenQuest, and Revolution d100). However, I also tend to favor certain systems for certain genres, such as the Storyteller system for modern horror where the protagonists stand a little more chance than those in a Call of Cthulhu game.
I'll always have a special place for AD&D 2nd Edition. Favorite settings to run are Ravenloft, Al-Qadim, and Dark Sun, with Planescape as an always-possible side-trek. Favorite settings to read include the above, plus Dragonlance and Greyhawk.
