Hello everyone. I'm 27 years old and have been roleplaying since before graduating high school so... about 12 years now. I've done forum play-by-post roleplay and chat roleplay and some voice roleplay (fantasy grounds + Skype) but I would like to get into roll20.
I'm a big fan of custom/homebrew game mechanics as many of the more commonly-used systems are very rules-heavy which- don't get me wrong- I am capable of keeping up with. I've thoroughly read and understand the rule books Exalted and Shadowrun as well as several versions of DnD, but I guess I'm just more interested in creating a compelling story and interesting characters and exciting interactions than I am the more tedious parts of double checking weight limits and tallying up expenses and incomes. Or in Exalted's case, the enormous number of rule exceptions and pre-requisites for said rule exceptions (Charms).
As far as settings go I love medieval fantasy, gritty especially though high fantasy is fun as well. Plus sci-fi settings of almost all sorts- space combat, cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic, dieselpunk. Not to mention just contemporary ones if the idea is interesting enough. I'm a big fan of WW1 or WW2 settings, especially alternate reality ones though realistic is fine too.
Some of the games I've GMed in the past included ones where the player characters were: alien space ships suddenly made sentient and set at odds against the rest of their kind in a post-colonization galaxy (think Arpeggio of Blue Steel IN SPAAAACE), prisoners sent to an irradiated island prison inhabited by several factions of other inmates as well as dangerous mutated beasts (think Arkham City meets S.T.A.L.K.E.R.), and technological magical girls in a claustrophobic megacity under attack by a demon from outer space turning people within it insane.
I am located in the middle of the United States, Central Time zone. The best time for me to play would be any day after 4:30 PM, or on the weekend. I have a pretty good microphone, though not a webcam, and I'd prefer to use Discord for group chatting, as it's extremely convenient.
