Hi there!
I'm an avid player with almost 40 years of experience (no, I'm not THAT old), I've been GM'ing varied system for almost as long. I cut my RP teeth on Basic Dungeons and Dragons then 2e. Ah, the bygone era of systems so clunky you had to have house rules to make them more playable.
I seem to always "get stuck" playing the cleric or some other priest-type in D&Dish games, that's fine by me as I enjoy playing them, the druid remains one of my favorite classes among most editions.
I'd say some of my favorite character archetypes are the Anti-Hero, Stoic Sage (no not edge-lords), Fool/Jester, although I do enjoy playing many others. Some archetypes can mean different things to different people, but what if I were to tell you that Star Wars has many archetypes that are often seen in fantasy?
The Mythical Knight - Luke Skywalker (or a warrior-priest)
Dashing Rogue - Han Solo (think Robin Hood)
Damsel in Distress (later Warrior Woman) - Princess Leia
The Magician - Obi-Wan Kenobi (Merlin)
The Hermit/Wise One - Yoda (an old man who teaches secrets)
The Dark Lord - Darth Sidious/Palpatine (royalty with occult powers, vampire lord/Lich King anyone?)
Fallen Hero (later redeemed) - Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
The Child/Jester - CP30 and R2D2 (one is innocent and wary, the other is willing and a smart arse)
Just to name a few.
