Welcome to my profile page. I am technically an award-winning author (it was a small award, and I'm humble-ish), who has been running roleplaying games on the internet since 2001. I've been performing paid Dungeons and Dragons services both online and offline for the past 9 years. Offline has included paid services through local game shops, nursing homes, and afterschool programs. Online has been strictly upon Roll20.

If you're looking at my profile page, you're likely checking into one of my listings on the looking for group page. I try to keep things fair and rules as written for Fifth Edition gaming. I'm not always correct, but I try to be, and I'm always open to criticism and ideas from my groups. Similarly, I have a zero tolerance policy for players who are assholes to each other. Jerk characters are one thing, jerk players are something else entirely.

Here are some quotes from people on Roll20 who have enjoyed my games:

  • "A great DM with, I assume, an appropriate number of nipples. I've really enjoyed the games run by EQandCivfanatic for over a year now. The ease with which he accomodates us when we occasionally (or perhaps not so occasionally) go on wild tangents and his familiarity with the material at hand makes the games both more entertaining and more immersive. Hopefully I'll continue to play in his games for much more time to come." - Charles

  • "Gave my character a cursed item that dropped his Intelligence to 1 when he took it off. Had him stalked by a Night Hag. Miscommunication lead to an unintended PVP situation where my character was dropped hundreds of feet to his death, thereby becoming a saint within the world. 10/10 Would Recommend Playing" - Mike C.

  • "I've been playing with this particular DM for around six months, which has been my first foray into online roleplaying, and I have come to the following conclusions: EQandCivfanatic is fair, consistent, improvisational, and, among others, flexible. I have always felt welcome to play as my character would, given his consistent fairness. As for improv, one example was where I argued with a doppelganger of myself, both of us in stocks, as to how to woo a woman (my character a young strapping teenager), where EQ allowed me to argue with myself so as to put off the party in knowing (using my voice as both characters) who the real "me" was. The party was quite confounded. He has shown the ability to be quite flexible during each and every game as nothing has been shot down by any player--natural consequences have been the balance--think of an arcane archer/rogue firing a seeking arrow at a major villain in the game from 600 feet off as the PC was rebuked by the party against killing her while she was among about half the town. His shot killed her and the entire town effectively rioted. Madness ensued. It is safe to say that the only limit to your enjoyment with EQ will be of your own making. I wholeheartedly endorse this candidate." - Thovan Moondancer

  • "EQandCivfanatic is a equal opportunity DM. He revels in both the victories and defeats of the PCs. EQ has spent untold hours building out a living, breathing world for his players to experience. We've found that the best of that world can be experienced through https://www.worldanvil.com/w/emicara-eqandcivfanatic/. Despite the smile you can hear in his voice when the PCs are faced with difficulties, EQ is a fair DM and equally appreciates clever play and PC triumphs. He is always willing to bring the game and story to his players. He appreciates feedback and runs his games with everyone's enjoyment in mind."" - Nathan M.

  • "EQ runs a well constructed world full of lore (for his own homebrew setting), while being a very experienced and knowledgeable DM. While he will sometimes might make a ruling some players don't agree with, he's very willing to admit when he's misinterpreted something and willing to revisit any specific written rules. His combat also runs very smoothly and he knows how to keep the pacing fluid to keep the game from stalling, while also allowing the players plenty of opportunity to get their own flair/RP added to their characters through the encounters." - Travis

  • "EQ runs some of the smoothest combats I have ever participated in. For most other DMs I'm only half paying attention - or worse, they're doing that - but I'm as engaged in fights as I am with the rest of the game. They don't drag on and I rarely feel like I'm not holding my own, a frequent occurrence in other games." - Double A

  • "An amazing DM and a wonderful teacher! Honestly I've enjoyed every game I've played with him, no matter the scenario. I first started being fairly new and not knowing much about the game but he really made sure to explain in a way that my group and I could truly understand. I enjoyed playing with him so much I even joined a second game run by him! With a new more diverse group of players and various knowledge levels, he's done an incredible job ensuring ever one is able to play and have fun. I highly recommend EQ weather you're new and just starting out or been around the D&D block a few times!" - Drew W.

  • "Great Dm! Had brilliant experience, very easy going, reasonable and incredibly knowledgeable on the game. Been playing for over a year and not had a single complaint." - Curps
