Bio

Hey everyone, Kävik is my real name, yes it's weird and unpronounceable, no I'm not from eastern europe. Currently 20 years old, grew up in Austin, Texas but now living in New Mexico (Mountain Time Zone). I've been interested in tabletop RPGs for the last 8 years, but I never really hung around anyone that shared my interest, so I haven't played that much. I have however been reading D&D core books, supplements and rulebooks for other games all these years, so I may come off a bit more versed than your typical noob. I am also an avid fiction writer, focusing mostly on short stories and the first two or three pages of novels (ha).

My favorite genres are horror and science fiction. I like fantasy but usually not puritan Tolkien style stuff. I'm also a big fan of Lovecraftian fiction, Gaslamp and the various -punk subgenres, steampunk, cyberpunk, dieselpunk, etc.

A few of my favorite books that these genres brought to mind, The Dark Tower series by Stephen King is a magnificent blend of horror, fantasy, science fiction and westerns. The Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey seamlessly blends fantasy with science fiction. I would describe Neuromancer by William Gibson (published 1984) as the epitome, centerpiece and source code of the entirety of cyberpunk, but Orson Scott Card is hands down my favorite science fiction writer.
