a rough outline of my character is at http://www.orcpub.com/dungeons-and-dragons/5th-edition/character/list/103494 my angry dwarf bard. He's changed a bit in the move to roll20 but any questions let me know. I've now fully updated his total backstory and is ready to import to any game, items in and underweight (48/50). The focus was to make a character the GM can take in many directions with very open-ended story elements in the long term, but a clear set of motivations to guide his actions.
Just a fun side note, this isn't exactly inspiration, since it's something I found after the fact, but it's a decent visual for how I sort of see his character if in a gender bend.

And I think Lidsey Stirling is an easy way to include the character in the soundtrack to the game, she does a tonne of video game covers (zelda, assassins creed, dragon age, lord of the rings etc) Tina Guo is another cello (not violin) artist that does a variety of gaming covers that Davian might play from time to time in a pub or while travelling.
