I am going to re-use and modify what I wrote to apply for one of the games here...

My name is Jon. I am in my 30s but have never played DnD before. I live in ET time zone. I have been spending a lot of the last 2 weeks reading rules and watching videos. I want to eventually DM but I really want to play as well. The most compelling thing about the game for me is the storytelling. I am interested in being serious about developing a good story between myself and some other players.

I intend to write fiction at some point and have spent some time developing some of my own worlds and settings. I need to get more practice at linking the settings and characters together with the threads of a story. DnD is really compelling for me to be able to enjoy a good game while getting this sort of practice telling stories.

I have spent some time adventuring IRL backpacking, climbing, kayaking, snowshoeing, etc. I have spent a lot of time alone in the woods and mountains. I have used many of my trail miles to imagine stories, worlds, and characters. I have noticed a lot of the YouTube DnD games seem to ignore the Exploration aspect of the game. I would like to see Exploration be an interesting part of the story as well.

I tend to be a bit more serious and enjoy interacting with deep and interesting topics. I am not a "for the lulz" kind of person. I would like to play with a group that takes the story, the setting, and the characters seriously.

As part of my learning the rules and how Roll20 works I rolled a Dwarf Fighter. I was intending to just make sure I knew how to do it, but now I really want to find a game where I can play him. I have not named him yet. I could use some help picking out a good dwarf name. He is an older mountain dwarf, probably about 275 years old. He is a folk hero who when he was much younger helped the people of his community against a threat or a tyrant of some kind. It is a small community somewhere deep in the mountains. The trouble lasted for a few years and he had a significant role in winning a victory that has allowed his community to live in peace ever since (something like 175 or 225 years of peace). He went on to found a small construction company. He specializes in masonry and carpentry. He has a wonderful family with 3 sons and 2 daughters.

He has never forgotten the things he learned about fighting in his younger days and has spent time developing and perfecting his fighting style. He has remained an active leader and trainer in the militia he helped create. He helped design a warhammer that could also be used in masonry and carpentry work. Now his sons are old enough to take over the construction business and he has developed a bad case of wanderlust.

He has decided to take leave of his home and go out into the world seeking an adventure to remind him of the glory of his younger years. He also feels some sorrow to hear of the distress and injustice in many other parts of the world and has a desire to do some good for as many people as he can. He intends to seek out people who need some help and see what he can do about it. He carries his custom warhammer with him, and can put it to use for the tradecraft he knows to help pay his way. What modest wealth he has built up over his lifetime he has left with his family.

He is an old wise dwarf, not exactly a philosopher, but with a sharp sense of what is going on in the people and situations around him. I used the point-buy system to roll him. He has mostly average or slightly above average stats. He has 14 points of wisdom and proficiencies in insight, perception, survival, and animal handling. I intend to have him specialize as a Battle Master to help control the flow of engagements and be able to stand between his allies and the enemy.

The character above is a good example of something I would like to play. I know I would also enjoy playing many other characters as well. I expect to try playing a ranger and a wizard at some point, maybe others. I don't have any interest in rolling an evil character though.

I want to be a part of long term games. I hope we can work together with some of you to create a great game experience and a great story as well.
