I'm a NEVER TRUMPER, and if you love Trump, my games won't be fun for you.
Also, I don't do D&D or similar D20 systems anymore, so someone else is a good fit for you if you like that.
I've been role-playing for 40+ years. Now, I'm primarily interested in role-playing over "roll-playing". Games focusing on drama and problem-solving over rulesy combat on battle maps. I generally like systems that do not get in the way. I also like edgy settings where things don't necessarily go well for the protagonists, and there is potential for real drama and danger. Cthulhu-based scenarios are some of the more interesting things I read.
I've been adding games with people I have not known since June 2016. It's been interesting, but keeping a group of random players together is hard. However, I've learned how to find players that are more likely to fit into my games. So, if you'd like to jump into a game quickly, please look elsewhere. But if you are looking for a game with mature and consistent players where you can build some interesting stories and are willing to be introduced to the game and players slowly, you have found the right place.
Play what interests you, and don't let anyone tell you what that is. Above all, treat others with respect no matter what game you play. At the end of the day, if everyone has fun, it doesn't matter how that is achieved.
However...You won't enjoy the games I run if you like lots of rules and crunchy bits like D&D/Pathfinder.
There are maps...sometimes.
The protagonists win...sometimes.
But most of the time, we do "Theatre of the Mind," and the protagonists are in the middle of some bad stuff where "winning" is subjective.
One player called our style "Fiction First," I like that.
That said, my games are in worlds where things are going badly. People die, and combat is dangerous. Main characters that try to dance around waving guns and weapons at the bad guys, expecting them to fall down, get shot in the face. The world is dark and cruel, with no anime heroes or spandex supers.
On the bright side, I don't think "Oops! You're dead!" was ever fun, but dangerous situations with consequences, and you, as a player, are very aware of what you are putting your protagonist in, IS fun. Nothing ventured, nothing gained? Not really. True drama cannot happen when you are guaranteed things will work out in the end.
My favorite TV shows are Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, The Walking Dead (earlier seasons), The Outsider, Mr. Mercedes, and similar dark, gritty shows in a Stephen King-like world. I also like Supernatural, even though it's sometimes a little silly. It's a guilty pleasure, but I like it. I loved Firefly, so some games might have a more ensemble feel like that if you are playing Coriolis or Traveller.
