You clicked this profile. I can't foresee why you chose to do so, but I can guess; so if it's one of my established gaming friends: Hello, talk to you soon ;)
For you whom I don't yet know, (a fact I'm looking forward to remedy) I'll give you the basics of what might interest you in a strangers' profile.
I'm RPG-experienced. Been creating characters and rolling the dice since I was about 8, which is a lot longer ago than I care to admit, without having to take a moment to seriously look at my life.
I've GM'd and I've played, both in various campaigns, systems and groups, face to face in the past and more and more Internet-based for a long time.
As a GM I tend to be spontaneous – any plan I can come up with is not going to survive a group of players and what they want to do – and the railroad is not an instrument I enjoy or use. So I tend to offer worlds and universes, often with specific or general plots in the back that players might latch on to or not, depending on their fancy. The rest is improv or some gentle indicators as to where plot is happening.
I'm a bit of the opposite when it comes to being a player. I create carefully crafted characters with pages of background and charsheets on custom pdf's, often take the time to illustrate them and – depending on the campaign – to write stories about the sessions or logbook entries or whatever fits.
I do large amounts of research, both before and during game to support the character and get a lot of enjoyment out of that. In-game I tend to silently tag along, only taking the lead if the group wants or needs me to. I enjoy special ability characters or inventors/builders and often can't resist making myself a jack-of-all-trades with maybe a speciality or two (no matter whether I'm playing a soldier, mad scientist, alchemist, wizard, rogue, or whatever crazy thing I can come up with and interest the GM in). Those specialities are usually meant to come in handy when everything else failed and the situation is dire and I can attempt to save the bacon (and then either succeed spectacularly or fail horribly to great amusement). I also enjoy creatively applying or using items and skills to get over, past or through a scene. I'm not usually a face, but rather gravitate towards strange, weird and fun concepts.
System-wise, I've played and GM'd everything from phantasy to current-day to future... and anything in between. From my very first game (Realms of Arkadia) to Shadowrun, Warhammer/40k, White-wolf (Mage, Vampire, Exalted, etc.), Deadlands & Hell on Earth (Classic)... Paranoia, Pendragon, Numenera... I'm probably forgetting more than remembering. Damn you memory! Which is why I keep extensive notes (and often justify them by giving a character Eidetic Memory).
I tend to like systems that are class-free and leave all options open to you. DnD doesn't tend to do this (and I usually gravitate towards really terrible dice-luck) so I prefer Shadowrun, Eclipse-Phase, FF Warhammer40k or White-Wolf kind of systems, that don't restrict you. With that comes a bit of a guardedness of many newer editions that try to make things 'easy' and 'beginner friendly'. I like some crunch and research and systems accommodating those to make truly unique and special (and oftentimes insane) things.
So I prefer roleplay over rollplay, I like to bend rules or throw them out of the window if they stand in the way of a good story or character and if I get invested, I'm very invested, even if I only meddle with my group every once in a while, preferring to support from the sidelines until I'm really needed.
Geography-wise I am in Central Europe and evenings work out best.
Well, that was very factual, but if you’re still reading, I might make for a good fit for what you’re looking to put together. So drop me a line, I’m looking forward to actually getting to know you.
