Experience With D&D as DM

Here are the highlights...

Adventures of Psi-Mage Tirentious

I ran a multi-year DND 2E campaign in the Forgotten Realms and Dark Sun with up to 5 middle school and high school friends... This included archmage-psionicist Tirentious among others, another fireball meteor swarm spewing wizard who landed the group to no end of trouble and a cleric of Garagos, a bloodthirsty god of brutal war...

Later on we upgraded to DND 3E and then 3.5E running another campaign in the Forgotten Realms that also spanned the outer planes... This involved epic level characters such as the hero god Night Blade, the Red Wizard conjurer Delwynein, a lich and a powerful crazed arch priest of Tempus...

Other smaller campaigns included a dark paladin traveling through the lands of Unther...

A priest of the fallen, dead god Gilgeam...

Land of the Five Dragons

Plus there was the Land of the Five Dragons campaign involving the Koga ninja clan where the players advanced from the ranks of lowly genin all the way to master ninja jonin...

It was a meld of the game console game Tenchu involving wuxia-feel, high points for stealthy assassination, romance, seduction and Lord of the Five Rings with a healthy dose of inter-ninja clan shadow warfare, strife and political intrigue...

Shadows of the Codex

During 2015 - 2016, I was also involved in running an epic campaign (using the Pathfinder RPG system) in the River Kingdoms of Golarion involving war, intrigue and hidden planar invasions involving an ever shifting cast of characters on Roll20 including Hawkblade the mythic trickster rogue, Durne, Nyara the ghost oracle, Kal the steel winged angelic war priest and Alluki the wizard to name a few...

The campaign could not be concluded due to commitments at the time however it's log is still available...

The Adventures of Tristan Arrwn

I am also running a small campaign for a single player running two heroes - Tristan Arrwn, a dwarf monk and hermit and his priestly companion, Theirastra Ankhalab, a half-elf drow Mulhorandi hailing from the Forgotten Realms...

The campaign is generally referred to as "The Adventures of Tristan Arrwn" and Tristan is/has been exploring the lands of Barovia through The Curse of Strahd with improv encounters and more so that it never matches the base adventure or sandbox and things are unexpected...

Experience as a DM Overall

I have run other short adventures or campaigns involving...

A tiefling warlock using D&D 4E...

Solo player campaigns using the Hero Quest rules...

Short summary of DM style

I prefer fast and loose...

With less rules lawyering and more on the spot judgment calls...

This means that I generally don't prefer to work with players who are extreme rules lawyers either...

I typically don't like to do a lot of up front "map work" or preparing encounters ahead of time because I don't have that kind of time and because players tend to short circuit this kind of setup a lot...

On Roll 20 I prefer to draw maps as needed... or prepare them quickly on paper using flow chart diagrams...

On rare occasions I may prepare maps with dynamic lighting (when or if available) though this is very rare nowadays...

Generally I prefer to DM to players who are willing to use more of their imagination to run through dungeons...

I also like to keep a log of campaign events for players to look back on fondly or to award hero points or inspiration to a player who wishes to take up the role of lore keeper for the campaign...

After delving into narrative style games like FATE RPG, I'm thinking of using aspects or using ideals, bonds, flaws in D&D 5E to drive the story with the use of compels as well...

I believe it to be far more fun, powerful and enjoyable because a campaign where players create new troubles or reversals is what provides endless surprises and the spice of life...

Experience as a Player

Here are the highlights...

Wyvernspear

I was involved in a multi-year campaign called Wyvernspear in Taeghas, Anuire, a Birthright campaign using DND 3E...

Playing Caelan Wyvernspear, a priest of Haelyn and accompanied by his conspirators Moonwraith the Sidhelian wizard and Dagger the battle priest of Cuiraécen, we set out to conquer all of Anuire and rule from the Iron Throne...

We succeeded, defeating the Darien Aven, Boeruine, Rhoubhe Manslayer, the Gorgon and eventually gaining new enemies in Kamwaset, a serpentine awnshegh chosen of the god Set...

Later on the Caelan and friends would travel the planes, build planar alliances and even create a spelljamming fleet with which to conquer the entire solar system...

Caelan eventually became a demigod servant of Haelyn... while Moonwraith become the pre-eminent archmage of the continent, married to the Queen of Sielwode...

In the years between I would play various characters and visit various settings like Dark Sun and Ravenloft too...

The Rise of Luskan and the Gates of Hell

Another one of the longest running campaigns I played was as Ravaviel, the telepathic tyrant along with Derek the Dark Pirate in the Forgotten Realms...

We reached epic levels of power (around 27th level) where we took over the city of Luskan and began conquering as many nearby nations as possible through their economies and politics rather than outright warfare...

During this time, Derek would become an ur-priest and one of the devil lords of the Nine Hells who resided on the Material Plane...

We fought Nessian pit fiends, demigods and worse...

It was one of my favourite anti-hero, near-evil campaigns I ever participated in...

The Jade Regent

In 2015 - 2016, I played the Pathfinder adventure path "The Jade Regent" as a support character, the Priestess of Wands, Cirwell Lyrann, who was a battle priest of the magic god Nethys...

She helped to put Ameiko Amatatsu on the Jade Throne of Minkai with the help of various companions including an afflicted were-tiger wizard, a bard, a ninja and a spiked shield wielding warrior...

My claim to fame was of course my long range healing spells and buffing my allies using sacred bond, shield of faith, barkskin, protection from elements and more through spells and wands...

At the end of the path, Cirwell was a 14th level cleric who I re-converted to D&D 5E for fun...

Short summary of play style

As a player I generally prefer psionic classes particularly those who use telepathic power or those who use body enhancing buff powers, making them like psychic monks...

My second most preferred classes include spontaneous casting classes like sorcerers and warlocks...

My third are wizards...

I am however able to play as other classes if a group requires it as one can tell from my experience including the less popular support characters like clerics... maybe even bards...

Generally I prefer cautious tactics and strategy and enjoy role-playing when the opportunity presents itself... especially if I get to use social skills like Persuade/Diplomacy, Bluff/Deception or Intimidate...

Days of week free

My schedule during the week is flexible as I generally set my own hours at this time...

Generally whole Saturdays or Sunday noon is the best time for me...
