Text preference player, not opposed to voice, but I find things run quite a bit smoother in pure text games.
As a GM I currently only do text games. Eventually I'd like to have voice as a medium for Out of Character chatter, but will be requiring Push to Talk mics when that happens.
Other than not using video and preferring to use text, as a player I'm fairly adaptable. Been playing a long time (20+ years), and in that time I've filled just about every role in a party.
While I feel my characters have a good deal of personality I enjoy the tactical side of gaming. You can call me a power gamer if you like, but I like to play a character who is good at doing what they do, in a group of other characters who are likewise good at what they do. My intent isn't to "win" at the game, or overshadow any other player, but to contribute to the team as well as the group's enjoyment of the game, through BOTH mechanics and story.
As a GM I'm always a fan of the characters/players. They are the protagonists in the story. That said, there is no story without conflict. The characters will most likely triumph in the end, but they may need to make periodic tactical retreats, and they may need to make sacrifices along the way.
Currently I'm in the process of devising a series of house rules to "fix" Pathfinder. Is Pathfinder a terrible system not worth playing? No, not at all. Are my houserules the only way to play Pathfinder correctly? Absolutely not. I have been playing PF since the beginning, and had a lot of fun doing so. That said, there are specific issues that I think need work, and if I'm going to continue running PF I'm going to go ahead and do the work so I enjoy it even more.
