Howdy! My name is Brendan (though plenty of people know me as Brendy) and I go by they/them pronouns.
I started playing TTRPGs just before Covid, after listening to TAZ: Amnesty. With that being what first really pulled me in, Monster of the Week was the first system I really ran, and to this day its still one of my favorites. My DM'ing style was also super inspired by Griffin in TAZ, and almost certainly still comes through a bit today.
After running Monster of the Week games for about a year, I started joining D&D games. While I love plenty of the groups I've played with, I never really fell in love with the system much. I'm happy to play it with good people, but I definitely prefer other systems if its a fantasy setting. I'm particularly fond of 13th Age.
Cut to present day, and Call of Cthulhu is probably my favorite system. I haven't been a player much in it, but I've been DM'ing it for three or four years now. I'm a huge horror fan, and I love the roleplaying that CoC brings out of players. I also have a pretty big improv background, and truly playing TTRPGs is mostly how I cope with not being on stage.
Some of media that definitely inspires my horror would be:
- The SCP Foundation
- The Magnus Archives
- Evil Dead
- Dead Space
- Outlast
- The Fall of House Usher
Beyond horror, some things that I either love or inspire my games would be:
- Metal Gear Solid
- Undertale
- The Witcher 3
- The Wolf Among Us
As a player, I'm chill as hell and love making interesting characters.
As a DM/Keeper, I tend to run super narrative/roleplay heavy games that are packed full of content. A campaign from me might be only ten sessions long, but it'll be ten sessions of insane prep, pre-recorded audio, custom visual aids, and really anything else I can think of to make a game as sweet as possible. The downside being that I might only run one campaign a year haha.
In any case, if you come across my profile and you're interested in me as a player or Keeper, send me a message. I'm definitely always looking for new good Call of Cthulhu players.
Oh, and of course JK Rowling supporters can politely fuck right off.
