It's been a long time since I sat down at a tabletop to play an RPG. Far too long.
I'll sit for days on end playing them on PC/XBox, but I haven't really enjoyed the experience as much as I used to when my friends and I would sit, in character, for days at a time as we played through a number of unique year (or more) long campaigns.
I've taken characters from L1 to Godhood ... and enjoyed every second of it (apart from the failed saving throws vs death ... they totally sucked). Yeah - I used to be a gamer ... before a life of work drudgery, marriage and a kid put a massive stop to that.
You can call it a midlife crisis if you want to (and probably wouldn't be too far wrong, if you did) but it feels like it's time to re-open my creative channels and step back into tabletop roleplaying.
I've GM/DM'd before ... but only a few 2nd Edition scenarios and a couple of Vampire campaigns ... so I am initially wanting to come back to the table as a player. I've got thousands of hours of game time under my (large) belt ... but they were about 20 years ago. As such, I'd consider myself a beginner to any rules system, but quite comfortable in playing roles. Anyone who a) works, b) is married, or c) has children is more than adept at putting on masks to appear as something you're not, at least in my opinion.
Back in the day, I've competed (and came third) at European GenCon (don't even know if that exists any more) ... if that tells you that I was good at role playing, then congratulations ... give me a seat at your table!
