I was playing rpgs before I knew they existed. My brother, our friends and I would draw fantasy maps in pencil on printer paper sheets cello-taped together, then proceed to explore them. There were no rules or dice...and there were many arguments.
If you've ever seen The Court Jester, Surf Ninjas or Jojo Rabbit, you understand my sense of humor.
I find the group dynamics I enjoy the most are when people are egging each other on, pitching ideas without worrying about them being used or not, and playing off each other's stuff. I focus more on role-playing than narrative/mechanical achievements, and grow frustrated when people prioritize "risk mitigation" over engaging the game as it's written.
