Have been playing and DMing D&D off and on for over 30 years, starting with the boxed sets in 80's when I was a teen. Really like the simplicity of the latest 5th edition. I am a traditional table-top player that is used to using all of the books, miniatures, playmats, and player handouts. By day, I work in IT, and I would look forward to playing D&D with my friends to decompress "off-line" so I've always avoided sytems like Roll20 in the past. With the recent situation of shelter-in-place due to the global COVID19 scare, my hand has been forced. So here I am now playing "online" with my freinds.
As a gamemaster: I like the role-playing aspect D&D. I like to make scenario's based off of player characters' back stories. I like to interact with the player characters using NPCs and not just put out fodder for them to kill. But I know everybody likes a good-old-fashioned slice 'em and dice 'em scrap every now and then.
