*** one-shots, pick-up ?maybe on Monday, Wednesday evenings Eastern Time (New York/ Montreal / Toronto time); maybe sometimes Friday or Saturday special events/ monthly.
Learn 5.5e dnd in low level games? I am more inclined to use dnd beyond with5.5e dnd , and some more of the... custom, third person, homebrew, GM practice design with things like roll20, hand make and modify characters, etc. I like the idea of trying dndbeyond for some low-level pickup games, and see how well it works/ I can use it to make characters I want to play quickly and easily for one-shot games, etc.
5.0e dnd, I might try more complex characters/ builds/ ideas in the older game, with more experienced players, if it doesn't seem to complicate or slow things down to much, etc. I would like to try some homebrew options, possibly longer campaigns, customize things, and to learn some elements of GM'ing, customizing options etc on games sites, like roll20.net , etc, in some games like these.
I was thinking of playing as a player and also getting into GM'ing the module also, the original 2014 Lost Mines of Phandelver beginner's basic set.
I am curious about the Curse of Strahd Campaign, but I heard it might take a bit of commitment, so I am not planning on joining a campaign of this right now.
For the colder North America winter cold season, I am transitioning to playing more.
Oct 2025 to end of March 2026 ish.
Then possibly scaling a back to make more space for more local seasonal interests some outdoors, etc.
For low-level drop in games, some kinds of characters I sometimes have something sort of available that I can play ok on short notice (hopefully without slowing games down too much, etc...) Include:
~ sort of vanilla fighter "tank" (intended to be able to take some hits well, but not necessarily hit hard (for instance, like wizards, or rogues, with their sneak attack...) )
I don't have a lot of money for paid games, or own a lot of the books. I have and have had paid subscriptions to dndbeyond and roll20.

Hello. I am a long-time, mostly occasional gamer fluent in the english language, from north america.
I'm looking to game online Sept 2024 - April 2025.
In the spring (end of April?) 2025, I may continue some occasional things, with the intent to play more again when the fall and cold season returns in North America.
I am in the Montreal, Canada time zone (Eastern Daylight Time, currently).
I would like to meet new people, start to get to know some of the gaming tools etc better, how to work in roll20, and find some communities where I feel comfortable connecting regularly.
I am interested in some short term more frequent 'shorter 'series' ' campaigns, and possibly less frequent longer campaign possibilities.
I'm especially interested in playing the 'Lost Mines of Phandelver' campaign as a player right now (with the intent to try to learn it well enough to start gm'ing it myself) or a similar pre-written adventure suitable for novice gm's to learn to game-master.
I believe more 'regular' gaming may work best for me on a 'week night' evening (online) , and potentially less frequently or regularly, on weekends, possibly for longer hours or for special events.
