Hey errybody! I’m Matt (he/him)! Here's a bit about me:
I’m 47, a lawyer, and I'm from Toronto, Canada (born and bred).
Started playing D&D Basic back in the early 80's as a pre-teen and played more or less consistently until undergrad, a mix of D&D (up to Immortal!) and AD&D, after which I put my books down for a decade or two. When the pandemic hit, a buddy of mine convinced me to get back into the game and so between lockdowns and some time off work, I've had lots of opportunity in the last year and a half to get back into the swing of things. I've played a lot but these days I DM much more, both official 5e content and one-shots over R20 and Discord (Matt C#8532).
I can hold my own when it comes to power gaming and optimization, but it's my strong preference to play story-driven, roleplay-forward games, where there’s more yuks, laughter, and clever play than bitching, shit-talking and rules-lawyering.
Since I DM I know what's involved in and how much work goes into DM'ing and that frames my behaviour as a player. Bullshit like disrupting the game the DM spent hours and hours of prepping under the lame excuse of "it's what my character would do" is out. I have no time for bullshit.
Speaking of bullshit, I’m Gen X, Canadian, and equity-minded, which when taken together means I have absolutely zero tolerance for any and all of the anti-vaxx, Q-Anon, Trump, racist, misogynist, anti-LGTBQIA crowds.
