I've been playing table top or online MUSH/MUD since 1989. The genres include, but not limited to, D&D 1st ed, Advanced D&D, White Wolf (Mage and Vampire, I tried playing Werewolf but ... enh), and Star Wars d6 by WEG.
I've been a player and a GM/DM and don't mind doing either. The end result of any session that I play is to tell a good story and for everyone to have fun. Some players like the adversarial GM - which can cause conflict and drama and high tension. Others want the GM to be an ally, so that in the end - the heroes save the day! I adapt to the needs/wants of the players
