I started playing D&D when I was in elementary school late 70s early 80s – Basic, Master, etc then AD&D. I continued through college, started to dabble with early 2E, then for various reasons didn’t play for 15-20 years – so I missed most of 2E, 3.5 & 4E. I started up again around when 5E came out, when I found a meetup group for older gamers. When I went for the first game at some dude’s office, I didn’t know if I would be walking into a serial killer situation, but happily I walked into a serial gaming situation! For awhile I was playing 2-4 games each weekend.
Systems I've played in the past several years include: AD&D, Basic D7D, Gamma World, Call of Cthulhu, Tenra Bansho Zero, Pathfinder, 5E, 13th Age, Dragon Age, Numenera, Shadowrun, Conan, Shadow of the Demon Lord, Vampire the Masquerade, DCC, etc…. I enjoy different systems.... I play Pathfinder 1E most frequently - I love the crunchiness of Pathfinder 1E. Haven't had the bandwidth to learn 2E as of yet.
I started DMing 5E about 8 years ago – running games for 2 different groups. As a player, I used to be all about the combat. But DMing really got me into the role playing aspect, and this has enriched how I play my PCs (though I still can't really do unusual voices).
With COVID, all my in person groups switched over to roll20 or stopped playing altogether. The benefit of everything moving online was that it is so much easier to play every spare moment, without having to mess with travel and schlepping stuff. I play 3-4 times a week online.
