I can remember, like it was yesterday, my friend's mom pulling a pink box out of a shopping bag and saying "thought you kids might have fun with this". On the front it depicted two adventurers, a woman and a man, locked in battle with a green dragon. WOW! We opened it up and it appeared to be defective. There was no board! How do you win? That night, back in 1981, we were up until the wee hours of the night trying to figure out how to play the D&D basic set.
We did eventually figure it out and I did get to play the basic and expert sets some before the "devil scare" caused many of my friend's parents to restrict our play. I did manage to find some folks to play ad&d 1e with but I mainly just spent tons of time dreaming up adventures and campaigns with that system's Dungeon Master's Guide. Campaigns and adventures that mostly never saw the light of day.
Aside from a brief stint playing AD&D 2e while in the military, I have not been able to find a group to play with. So, many years have passed, always with the desire to play lurking back in the recesses of my mind. Finally, in March of 2015, I stumbled upon itmeJp's "RollPlay" series published on youtube. I loved the content but, even more importantly, I noticed they were using Roll20 as an effective way to play campaigns online. WOW! So here I am, hoping to have some fun and maybe even do my little part to help make roleplaying games mainstream entertainment.
